After of summer of nonstop fighting in their contentious divorce, Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner settled their issues and are ready to move on with their lives. The sudden turnaround left fans scratching their head over what magically changed because the former couple was gearing up for a heated court battle. Well, it appears Baumgartner received some legal advice that swiftly changed her mind.
Sources told The National Enquirer, via RadarOnline, that Baumgartner “felt she had no choice but to settle” with her ex-husband as the realities of the prenuptial agreement came into focus. “Christine caved because her lawyer advised her to ‘cut bait and run,’” the insider noted. With a loss on the child support front for her three children with Costner, Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13, Baumgartner probably wouldn’t fare much better when it came to alimony since the judge indicated that he would uphold the prenup. “Christine had run out of options. She was getting beaten at every turn,” another insider added.
A third source even believes the mother of three is regretting her decision to divorce in the first place. “She’s kicking herself for forcing Kevin to agree to a divorce when she was living the high life with unlimited funds at her disposal, and everything paid for by her husband,” they said. The handbag designer hasn’t publicly uttered those words, so it’s hard to know her mindset throughout much of this, but the divorce probably cost her more than she realized it would.
Baumgartner’s next steps will be forging a new life herself which might include going back to school and entering the workforce after almost two decades of raising her children. Her second chapter should be a fascinating one to watch because her strong spirit doesn’t seem to be broken.
