London’s Savile Row is tradition in a nutshell, and while Henry Poole & Co. — founded in 1846 — maintains this Great British legacy, there’s also Drake’s on the same street that’s happy to shake things up.
Take its Spring 2023 campaign, for example. Sure, there’s tailoring, but it’s no bells-and-whistles dinner jacket. Instead, Drake’s enlists the artist, designer, and craftsman, Louie Isaaman-Jones, and the artist and weaver, Alena Dower, to showcase its latest “Perennial” offerings and seasonal pieces in a lookbook that’s as laid back as the clothing.
Relaxed Games tailoring is updated in Italian seersucker and linen-cotton and is just the start of an international array of garments, as Drake’s heads to India to create handmade traditional block-printed shirts and Blackburn in the UK for its seasonal outerwear, notably the new “Surf Cagoule.”
Layering staples range from nautical-informed rugby tops, which leans into the at-sea elements of the navy quarter-zip jacket that’s trimmed with tan leather toggles and stoppers. Likewise, loose white grandad collar shirts give a South of France attitude, particularly when paired with the short inseam checkered shorts — perfect for rolling up and taking a dip off of your yacht.
Echoing this is Drake’s footwear offering, which comes courtesy of a new Sebago collaboration. While more is yet to come, we can see that the boat shoes are Sebago classics, but have been updated with premium leather used throughout. To complete the off-duty Savile Row looks, we find forest-chic knitted sweater vests, printed neckties, Western-inspired belts, and of course, the signature Drake’s cap.
