Jim Davidson put the BBC on blast and called for the broadcaster to be ‘scrapped’ after they asked Gary Lineker to step away from Match Of The Day, then in a quick U-turn, he was reinstated on Monday.

The controversial decision from the BBC came after the football pundit, 62, compared the UK government’s language around migrants to the language used in 1930s Germany, on his personal Twitter account.

The likes of Ian Wright and Alan Shearer stood by Lineker, and refused to step in, while he also garnered support from celebrities like Piers Morgan, and a petition calling on him to be reinstated reached more than 200,000 signatures.

The 69-year-old comedian appeared on Monday’s GB News and branded the platform ‘woke’ and accused the cooperation of caring only about ‘box ticking.’

Host Dan Wootton asked: ‘So, where do you see the BBC heading now Jim? Is it going to become even more of an activist organisation?’

Davidson responded: ‘Well, I don’t know. It’s up to Tim [Davie] and all those silly people.’

He added: ‘Everyone’s just picking on one another. I think the BBC have lost have lost the public – they’ve lost the dressing room.

‘You know, who do we watch now? GB News – anything but BBC.

‘What does BBC stand for? Bring back Corbyn, bring back communism. It is a joke, and we have to pay for it, whether we like it or not. Let’s scrap it. Let’s watch GB News all day long.’

Over the past week, Lineker has been embroiled in a dispute with his bosses at the national broadcaster after he made comments on social media criticising the Conservative government and its Illegal Migration Bill.

However, Tim Davie, the BBC’s director-general, said he was ‘looking forward’ to Lineker ‘presenting our coverage this coming weekend’.

Former I’m A Celebrity star Wright also said managers at the BBC caused a ‘hot mess’ following the row.

Speaking on podcast Wrighty’s house, the 59-year-old said the row had been a ‘perfect distraction from what really matters’.

He added: ‘For me, they made a hot mess. I’m telling you, this is all from high up, I can’t blame my man (the head of BBC TV Sport) Philip Bernie, the BBC Sports team. All of this is over a tweet.’
