Linda Evangelista has revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer twice in the last five years.
The A-list supermodel, 58, was first diagnosed with the disease in 2018 and again in July 2022.
Evangelista said she opted for a double mastectomy ‘without hesitation’ and told her doctor to ‘dig a hole in her chest’ when the cancer returned.
‘It was detected [for the first time] in my annual mammogram,’ the runway star explained in a new interview.
‘Without hesitation, because I wanted to put everything behind me and not to have to deal with this, I opted for a bilateral mastectomy,’ she added to the Wall Street Journal.
After the surgery, Evangelista thought she was ‘good and set for life’.
But the cancer returned four years later when Evangelista noticed a lump on her breast.
The model told her oncologist to ‘dig a hole in my chest’.
Elaborating to the outlet, she said she added to the medical professional: ‘I don’t want it to look pretty. I want you to excavate. I want to see a hole in my chest when you’re done. Do you understand me? I’m not dying from this.’
She also revealed her post-cancer care oncologist has confirmed her ‘prognosis is good’.
Evangelista has spoken frankly about her health woes in recent years, even revealing cosmetic surgery left her ‘brutally disfigured’.
In 2021, the doting mum claimed she had been left ‘permanently deformed’ and ‘brutally disfigured’ after undergoing a fat-reducing procedure six years prior.
At the time, she shared a statement to Instagram explaining she was taking legal action after she developed a rare side effect from the CoolSculpting procedure that she claims turned her into a ‘recluse’.
Evangelista explained that the treatment which should ‘decrease’ fat cells did the opposite to her and instead ‘increased’ her fat cells – a risk she claims she wasn’t warned of ahead of the procedure.
As a result, Evangelista says she developed Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH) – a rare side effect of cryolipolysis used in coolsculpting treatments which causes fatty tissue to thicken and fat cells to expand rather than breaking them down.
In July 2022 she revealed she had settled the lawsuit, writing on social media: ‘I’m pleased to have settled the CoolSculpting case.
‘I look forward to the next chapter of my life with friends and family, and am happy to put this matter behind me. I am truly grateful for the support I have received from those who have reached out.’
