For Spring/Summer 2023, Pierpaolo Piccioli‘s vision of “Unboxing Valentino” culminated in a collection of fuss-free fashions, serving a swift departure from the House’s head-to-toe “PP Pink” ensembles from the season before. Now, Valentino continues to expand its minimalistic aesthetic with a collection that delivers and masters the Maison Valentino “Essentials.”
The collection is edited and concise, only comprising pieces that can be mixed and matched together for a designer capsule wardrobe that’s painted with a stroke of Couture. For example, pajamas crafted from luxurious black silk have been topstitched to give the top and bottoms structure, meaning they can be worn outside of the home for a relaxed summer-ready look. Likewise, chiffon is used to craft a top, perfect to be worn as a statement piece or as an accent underneath items like the double-breasted blazer, it dazzling with gold buttons on the chest.
This sense of Coutureified feminity comes through a number of times in Maison Valentino’s “Essentials” line, as washed silk shirts are finished with neck ties embedded into their slim-fitting designs. Naturally, the switchable outfit is complete with a range of One Stud XL sneakers, logo crossbody bags, belts, and other small leather goods all served up in a palette of black or white.
To celebrate the collection’s launch, the House tapped the Art Director Tommaso Garner and the AI Designer Vittorio Maria Dal Maso to create a lookbook that strips things back to basics. Here, robotics operate around the subject against blank backdrops, ushering in another welcoming fuss-free element to the collection.
