Martin Scorsese and his Sikelia Productions have officially signed a first-look deal with Apple.
According to reports, the multi-year deal covers Sikelia film and television projects that will be produced and directed for Apple TV+. The partnership follows Apple’s recent $180 million USD acquisition of Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon adaptation, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
Sikelia is now part of a growing list of production companies that have inked deals with the tech giant, joining Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson’s Appian Way, Idris Elba‘s Green Door Pictures, Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions, A24 and Imagine Documentaries, along with Sesame Workshop and Peanuts for children’s programming.
Scorsese’s upcoming title is based on David Grann’s 2017 non-fiction title, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. The award-winning book focuses on a series of murders of wealthy Osage Native Americans in the early 1920s after the discovery of massive oil deposits beneath Osage Nation lands. The newly-formed FBI launches an investigation that leads to the trial and conviction of cattleman and murderer William Hale. Pre-production is ongoing and filming is set to begin in February 2021, with Paramount distributing the film to theaters.
In other entertainment news, a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot is officially in the works.
