“Mies in Mind” Is a New Group Show That Celebrates the Creative Genius of Mies Van Der Roe

INDEX Berlin has partnered with 30 different galleries across the German capital on the reopening of the Ludwig Mies Van Der Roe-designed Neue Nationalgalerie museum. To commemorate the event, Sprüth Magers Berlin will showcase a group show of artwork by the likes of Jenny Holzer, John Bock and Thomas Demand, Thea Djordjadze, Reinhard Mucha and Otto Piene, to Thomas Ruff and Thomas Scheibitz.

Each artist has created unique work that pays tribute to the former Bauhaus Director, who amongst a century of incredible architects, was amongst the greatest. A pioneer of the phrase, “less is more,” Mies’ rectilinear buildings and elegant chairs are a progenitor of the Modernist movement and are as stunning today as they were nearly seventy years ago. The Neue Nationalgalerie art museum in Berlin is perhaps one of his most iconic designs — finally refurbished and ready to reopen — the building itself is just as breathtaking as the art on display within.

“Mies in Mind” will view at Sprüth Magers Berlin from August 20 to September 4.

Also on view, Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech” is now open at ICA Boston.
