New Balance's 920 Made in U.K. Writes a "Love Letter to Flimby"

New Balance‘s 920 silhouette has become a firm favorite among the dad sneaker-wearing crowd thanks to its nods to classic sneakers and its introduction of cleaner, wearable lines, and now the pair acts as a “Love Letter to Flimby.”

Served up in a “White/Red” colorway, the New Balance 920 Made in U.K. “Love Letter to Flimby” pays homage to New Balance’s British home up on the Cumbrian coast, where the sneaker imprint makes almost 30,000 pairs a week. This is just one of them, and it comes just in time for summer with its minimal colorway serving as the basis for a strong fit.

A gray perforated mesh base is overlayed with panels of leather and pigskin suede for that iconic New Balance look and feel, while hits of 3M on the toe box and all over the mid-panel’s “N” emblem add a contemporary touch. 920 is embroidered into the lateral rear-quarter, while further embroidery noting the pair’s British credentials works the tongue.

New Balance isn’t shy to add plenty of branding, and does so with another dose of “NB” embroidery on the heel and embossing on the toe. Again, much of the same decorates the interior tongue tag, heel clip and outsole.

To complete this pair, New Balance adds a heavy dose of its proprietary ENCAP sole unit, taken from the brand’s legendary 990V3. Elements made from lightweight foam and a durable polyurethane rim round off the sole, adding to its comfort.

The New Balance 920 Made in U.K. “Love Letter to Flimby” can be seen above and bought from retailers such as Asphalt Gold on July 28 for €209 EUR (approx. $209 USD).
