The Pokémon Company has recently announced a virtual concert featuring Post Malone in celebration of Pokémon’s 25th anniversary. The concert kicks off the brand’s commemoration of the original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green games’ release in Japan.
To further increase the hype for the special day, The Pokémon Company released the official concert trailer across the franchise’s social channels, including on YouTube, Twitch, and its 25th-anniversary website.
The concert is serving as the initial launch for P25 Music, Pokémon’s official collaboration with Universal Music Group, which also includes other musical artists such as Katy Perry. The concert is expected to provide fans with more details regarding P25 Music.
In other celebratory activations for the franchise, Pokémon Journeys: The Series debuted its first 12 episodes on Netflix U.S. last June with new added episodes expected to release quarterly. On March 5, Netflix is streaming the anime’s fourth and final batch of episodes. The Pokémon franchise’s 23rd anime film, Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of Jungle opened in Japan last Christmas Day and is coming to the U.S. sometime this year.
On the gaming front, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games began shipping worldwide for the Nintendo Switch in November 2019 to ready the 25th-anniversary commemoration. Over six million copies sold in the first week alone, breaking the record for the “highest first-week sales of a Switch game and the fastest Switch game to reach 6 million units sold.”
The highly anticipated performance is set to make its debut on Pokémon Day on February 27 at 7 p.m. EST. For more information, check out Pokémon 25.
