As the fall season finally settles in during the next few weeks, we’re all dying to dive into our fall to-do’s. Among them, of course, in addition to rocking some layered outfits, having some heartwarming soups and enjoying a few pumpkin spice lattes, is getting cozy while we read a gripping book.

So, in that same spirit, Reese Witherspoon just announced her October book club pick: Starling House by Alix E. Harrow. “Happy October!” The Morning Show star said in a video on Instagram. “Okay, I am so excited because it’s starting to feel like fall. I have the perfect book for you. It’s called Starling House by Alix Harrow and it is strange and spooky.”

Witherspoon continued, summarizing the book’s promising story. “It has a main character who’s this great girl, Opal, she’s very scrappy and she works as a part-time cashier in her tiny town in Kentucky. She takes care of her brother, Jasper, and she’s just trying to create a better life for him,” Witherspoon explained.

“This town is famous for a couple of things: the economic decline, but also [for] this spooky house on the hill called Starling House,” she added. “She gets a job working there with the mysterious man who owns it, Arthur. And kind of goes into the legend of the person who owned it.”

“It’s perfect to sit down and read with a cup of coffee and maybe a pumpkin cookie,” the Oscar winner suggested. And, in perfect fall fashion, Witherspoon then whipped up a recipe for pumpkin cookies, with the full ingredient list and recipe available in the comments. What’s not to love?
