This year has provided a bevy of unexpected twists and turns – from world news to health scares and entertainment. And adding to that list (from a fashion point of view), Richard Quinn and Tommy Hilfiger have just dropped a Fall/Winter 2022 collaboration that we didn’t see coming!
Creating a limited-edition capsule collection that blends the best of British and American pop culture, industry titan Hilfiger has opened his design archive to the fast-growing Quinn, to create a 40-piece collection that centers on bold graphics, western nostalgia and proportional shapes. The capsule incorporates Quinn’s signature pop-art, pattern-print floral design motifs that have garnered him international fame – even receiving the first-ever British Design award from Queen Elizabeth II back in 2018. Quinn’s ‘daisy motif’ appears on oversized navy-and-white quilted coats, tops and pants, intermixed with a newly-introduced “TH Monogram.”
Collection items also include plush velour bodysuits in deep red, splayed with an iconic English rose design pattern. Hints of Hilfiger’s Americana lie within the capsule’s campus-inspired separates, varsity jackets and leather moto-style pieces that have been mashed with a round of metal spikes – indicative of London’s 1960’s punk aesthetic. Additionally, the duo’s collection logo – an encircled “TH” font with a “R” floral motif – appears on some of the capsule’s outerwear, headgear and accessories.
Remarking on the exclusive joint venture, Mr. Hilfiger shares: “I’ve always been inspired by working with creatives who push boundaries, and Richard is no exception. We’ve brought together our two distinct aesthetics to create a rebellious take on modern Prep. It’s unexpected and optimistic, and reflects the playful spirit at the heart of both our brands.”
Sharing a similar sentiment, Quinn adds: “Tommy and I share the same obsession for prints and textiles, so it was a natural joy to balance and combine our visions for this collaboration. It was inspiring to dive into Tommy’s archives and find the iconic pieces that became the canvases for our co-creation. We pushed ourselves to be dramatic and vibrant with every detail — in the pursuit of progress — and the final pieces do not disappoint.”
The Tommy Hilfiger X Richard Quinn limited-edition capsule collection will also incorporate a conceptual film and forthcoming collection activations, launching on the Hilfiger website and at select TH stores and global retailers starting September 1.
In other news, the 2022 VMA’s red carpet was dominated by green, black and white color palettes.
