Ronda Rousey pulled from WWE SmackDown match due to injury before WrestleMania

Ronda Rousey has reportedly suffered a legitimate injury but she’s still expected to make it to WrestleMania 39.

The UFC legend was meant to team with Shayna Baszler on Friday night’s episode of WWE SmackDown against Tegan Nox and Natalya, but plans had to change.

During the show, footage was shown of the two teams fighting backstage, with the commentary team noting that Rousey, who later appeared in a sling, was unable to compete.

Instead, Baszler took on and beat Nox in singles action, while she was accompanied by her friend.

As reported by PWTorch, Rousey is thought to have aggravated a previous injury, and so was legitimately hurt.

However, it’s expected she’ll still be good to go for WrestleMania in Hollywood – but It remains to be seen what she actually does on the show, with both singles titles already accounted for.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair will face Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley at the huge show, while Bianca Belair will defend the Raw Women’s Championship against Asuka.

Given Rousey and Baszler’s recent alliance over the past couple of months, they could end up challenging for the Women’s Tag Team Titles, although that’s yet to be confirmed.

Former champs Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai lost the titles last week in a huge match with Lita and Becky Lynch after Trish Stratus returned to stop Bayley from interfering.

It remains to be seen if WWE is looking for Trish, Lita and Becky to face Damage CTRL at WrestleMania, or if the new champs will defend the gold, perhaps leaving the door open for Trish and Bayley to go one on one.

Besides the two women’s championship bouts, it’s already confirmed that Roman Reigns will defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Title against Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes, and Brock Lesnar is battling Omos.

Although they’re yet to be confirmed, it appears that Bray Wyatt will be going against Bobby Lashley, Finn Balor has laid down a challenge for Edge, and GUNTHER is waiting to find out who will face him for the Intercontinental Championship.

WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport.
