Telegram to Introduce Premium Subscriptions

Telegram is set to introduce a premium feature onto its platform. The new paid features is set to give users “additional features, speed, and resources.”

Pavel Durov recently announced in a post that the messaging service is launching a paid Telegram Premium subscription, hinting that some of the features coming with the platform includes the ability to upload larger files, early access to new features, premium-only stickers and reactions.

He stated that the existing features on the platform will stay free, and paid features will not affect the experience of users who aren’t subscribed. With the larger files, Durov claimed that non-subscribed users can access larger files sent to them and view premium stickers and reactions. The idea of having a premium subscription would help with some of the costs associated with “already crazy” limits on file sizes, chats, and media. Durov claiming that it would be “unmanagable” is offered to all users for free.

Full details have yet to be announced; however, according to a beta version of the app, the subscription will set you back $4.99 USD a month. The beta also suggests that users who are subscribed won’t have ads in one-to-many channels, as previously mentioned by Durov, promising to give the ability to turn off advertisements. “I believe that Telegram should be funded primarily by its users, not advertisers,” Durov wrote in his post, “This way our users will always remain our main priority.”
