We Tried On Swimsuits From The Internet's Cheapest Stores

If you are like us, then maybe you’ve received targeted ads on Instagram or Facebook for websites like Zaful, Modlily, and Rosegal spamming you with $10, $15, or $20 bikinis and swimsuits for the summer. We always thought, “Why the hell is this so cheap, and is it even worth it?” So, in the name of science, four of us decided to try on two swimsuits from each online company and provide our honest thoughts.

You can watch us try ’em on in the video below, or keep on scrolling to read on!

Farrah was surprised at how well this one fit, but she didn’t think the swimsuit as a whole was very flattering. The stripes were a bit much.

Size: Small

Would Farrah wear it again? No.

Get it from Modlily for $27.27 (available in sizes S–2XL).

However, she didn’t mind the one-piece and found that it was pretty spot-on compared to what was shown in the picture.

Size: Small

Would Farrah wear it again? Yes.

Get it from Modlily for $27.45 (available in sizes S–2XL).

Destinee loved the cross overlay design and thought the bottoms fit perfectly, but the top was just a smidgen too big. She thought the downside of these websites was that you couldn’t choose a different sized top and bottom — they all came in the same size.

Size: 2XL

Would Destinee wear it again? No.

Modlily sold out of this style, but you can always check back here to see if they restock.

When she tried on the second swimsuit, she LOVED it. It was one of her favorites. It fit properly and while she didn’t think she would like the fact it was very modest, she was a fan of the playful neck line and that it was shorts instead of bikinis.

Size: 1X

Would Destinee wear it again? Yes.

Get it from Modlily for $28.55 (available i sizes 0X–3X).

Janna didn’t think this swimsuit was the worst, but it fit her a little looser than it looked on the model.

Size: Small

Would Janna wear it again? Yes.

Get it from Modlily for $28.74 (available in sizes S–2XL).

However, she was a little disappointed by the second swimsuit because it was too loose in the bottom area, and the clip that held the neckline together kept coming unclasped — AND SHE WAS BARELY MOVING.

Size: Medium

Would Janna wear it again? No.

Get it from from Modlily for $26.86 (available in a large).

Exhibit A:

Lara liked the pattern on this one-piece, but she felt like she wouldn’t wear it again because it wasn’t very flattering. The most important thing about a swimsuit is feeling good in it, and she just didn’t feel good in this one.

Size: Medium

Would Lara wear it again? No.

Get it from Modlily for $26.24 (available in sizes M–2XL).

When she tried on the second swimsuit, she thought it wasn’t anything special. It came down to personal preference. She wished the bottoms were more high-cut and thought the top was a little confusing to put on.

Size: Medium

Would Lara wear it again? No.

Get it from Modlily for $14.04 (available in sizes M–XL).

Modlily delivered in terms of coverage, although sometimes the sizes were too loose. Our biggest gripe was more with the website not allowing you to pick different sized tops and bottoms, and most of the plus size options were one pieces or super modest. However, they did have a lot of really fun patterns and prints.

Farrah thought this swimsuit was just OK. The back of the bottoms bunched up weirdly when she walked, and the top gapped more than she preferred. But she did like the color!

Size: Medium

Would Farrah wear it again? No.

Get it from Zaful for $18.99 (available in sizes S–L).

Overall, the second swimsuit was a bit tighter/smaller than Farrah anticipated. The color and pattern were really cute, but there was a weird seam in one of the cups that made it look like a nipple trying to poke out.

Size: Small

Would Farrah wear it again? No.

Zaful sold out of this style, but you can always check back here to see if they restock.

Destinee thought this one-piece was a little tight, but she loved the colors and pattern. She also thought Zaful could be better at providing larger sizes on its site.

Size: 2XL

Would Destinee wear it again? Yes.

Get it from Zaful for $20.49 (available in sizes S–2XL).

When she tried on the second suit, she loved the way the colors went together — but the top and bottom sizing weren’t doing it for her. The top fit great, but the bottoms were too tight.

Size: 2XL

Would Destinee wear it again? No.

Get it from Zaful for $9.04 (available in sizes S–2XL).

Lara felt like she wouldn’t wear this swimsuit in a public place for fear of accidentally flashing a boob in front of a child, but she loved the snakeskin pattern.

Size: Large

Would Lara wear it again? Yes.

Get this swimsuit from Zaful for $15.41 (available in sizes S–L).

She also felt extremely exposed in the second swimsuit, but she wouldn’t mind wearing it to a small, private pool party with friends. She also ordered a medium but didn’t feel like it covered enough to be a medium.

Size: Medium

Would Lara wear it again? Yes.

Get this swimsuit from Zaful for $16.99 (available in sizes S–L).

Janna liked the color and design for this two-piece, but she was a little confused by how the straps tied together. Then, she realized you had to tie the two straps together in the back.

Size: Small

Would Janna wear it again? Yes.

Get it from Zaful for $6.99 (available in sizes S–L).

Here’s how the back is supposed to look. She thought it was TOO much strap.

When she put on the second swimsuit, she thought it was pretty loose. She absolutely loved the marble design, but it just didn’t fit properly, especially in the top.

Size: Small

Would Janna wear it again? No.

Get it from Zaful for $15.99 (available in sizes S–L).

We all agreed that Zaful had tons of fun colors, patterns, and swimsuit designs, but the sizing was an issue. Like Modlily, you could only choose one size for your top and bottom. For most of us, Zaful’s sizing ran too small — except for one Janna tried on that was too large.

Farrah really loved the fit of the top, but the bottoms were too tight and weren’t THE BEST in terms of quality. She’d wear the top with different bottoms, though.

Size: Small

Would Farrah wear it again? The top, but not the bottom.

Get it from Rosegal for $14.97 (available in sizes S–L).

Some of the stitching had come out in the bottoms even though this was a BRAND NEW swimsuit.

Farrah thought that it was a little bit tighter than she anticipated and was worried about things staying in place, but they nailed the pattern and cut because they were the exact same as in the photo.

Size: Small

Would Farrah wear it again? Yes.

Get it from Rosegal for $13.51 (available in size S).

Destinee really wanted to like this swimsuit because the print was amazing and it felt really comfortable, but the top was too large and made it look like bat wings were coming out of her armpits.

Size: 2XL

Would Destinee wear it again? No.

Get it from Rosegal for $16.99 (available in sizes 2XL–4XL).

Destinee REALLY loved this swimsuit because both the top and bottoms fit well, the pattern was cute, and the straps were removable. It was the win of the day.

Size: 2XL

Would Destinee wear it again? Yes.

Get it from Rosegal for $17.99 (available in sizes XL–5XL).

Janna felt really comfortable in this swimsuit and thought it fit right. Although she thought the boob area was a little stiff, she kind of liked how supported it was.

Size: Medium

Would Janna wear it again? Yes.

Get it from Rosegal for $20.71 (available in sizes M–2XL).

She also thought this next swimsuit fit pretty good and felt snug in a good way. It was simple, sleek, and she felt like she could wear it to the beach.

Size: Medium

Would Janna wear it again? Yes.

Rosegal sold out of this style, but you can always check back here to see if they restock.

Lara liked the fit of the top of this swimsuit and really liked the fact that it came with padding in the boob area. She thought this swimsuit fit more secure than the others she’d tried on.

Size: Medium

Would Lara wear it again? Yes.

Rosegal sold out of this style, but you can always check back here to see if they restock.

When she put on the next swimsuit, she didn’t think the top was very flattering. She also felt like getting it wet would result it in becoming see-through because the material didn’t exactly feel high quality.

Size: Medium

Would Lara wear it again? No.

Get it from Rosegal for $17.52 (available in sizes S–XL).

In terms of quality and fit, Rosegal was the best of the three companies. Every single one of us had one swimsuit that we loved from this website. Even though a few of these swimsuits didn’t fit perfectly, it ended up being a pretty decent option.

Well, you get what you pay for. Right? For the most part, these swimsuits were hit or miss. However, every single one of us found at least one perfect swimsuit that we would wear out in the summer. We wished the sizing options were a little better, but I guess you can only expect so much when they’re priced so cheap! If you’re on a budget, it just might be worth the risk.
