Angelina Jolie Schooled Us in Tonal Dressing With the Shoes We Haven't Seen in Months

It's an odd but indisputable phenomenon that, as soon as the seasons change (in places where seasons actually change), all fashion inevitably desaturates into a single shade: black. The logistics of it make sense — it's easier to match our warmest pieces if they're all the same color — but it certainly sucks the joie de vivre out of composing an outfit each morning. In these inspiration vacuums, sometimes it's helpful to look towards those blessed (or perhaps cursed) with climates that eschew the traditional, sub-30º winter.

Yesterday, in sunny, 74º Los Angeles, Angelia Jolie gave us a lesson in easy dressing that we can actually try at home, despite the drastic weather differences us East Coasters are experiencing. Jolie wore a creamy white long-sleeve sheath dress, a white Dior Montaigne satchel bag, and white Fendi slides, a shoe style we pretty much forgot existed altogether over these recent snowy months. Our biggest takeaway? We need to be wearing more all-white outfits.

As with all-black ensembles, building a look out of cream and white-tone garments can take some of the more mentally taxing work out of matching pieces from your wardrobe. The deftness and stylistic dexterity required for color pairing and pattern clashing make way to a seamless marriage of your easiest and most timeless clothes and accessories. Tonal dressing has always been a hot girl secret for effortless outfits.

Those currently enjoying dress-and-slides temperatures in their regions can take on this look basically verbatim and be confident they look great, but everyone else who's stuck with another few months of tundra can just as easily apply Jolie's philosophy with a chunky white sweater, white jeans, and a pair of excellent white boots, which are thankfully in no short supply these days.

White boots had a massive uptick in popularity last winter, and even more brands have gotten on board this year with elegant and surprisingly affordable styles that go with everything, but especially with all-white outfits. Shop our 10 favorite white boots below, starting at just $34.
