SPOTTING FAKE DEALS ON BLACK FRIDAY

Black Friday shoppers are being urged to watch out for fake deals as we reveal how some items were cheaper before AND after the big day last year.

Popular products including Panasonic TVs, Apple iPhones and XBox consoles were sometimes up to £680 cheaper after Black Friday in 2019.

The research from comparison site PriceSpy highlights the importance of comparing prices before handing over any cash.

Experts say if a product was cheaper before Black Friday, it’s likely it’ll be cheaper after as well.

    LET'S FLY AWAY!

British Airways has launched their Black Friday deal on all holidays when booked this week.

THE SUN'S TIPS FOR GETTING THE BEST DISCOUNTS

Brits might as well make the most of the sales while they are here – so we have put together some ways to best prepare yourself for Black Friday.

    • It might be tempting to dive in and snap up LOADS of items on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but here’s how you can guarantee you’re getting a good deal.
    • PREPARE Research the items you want to buy and find out the cheapest price. Websites like PriceSpyPriceRunner and CamelCamelCamel will give you historical data on prices so you can see how much you should pay.
    • GET FOLLOWING Follow your favourite shops on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and sign up to its deals newsletter to get the latest on any offers. We post the best deals in our Sun Money Facebook group too.
    • EARN CASHBACK Check websites like Quidco and TopCashback BEFORE you place your order. Cashback websites PAY you to shop. All you have to do is click through their links and the money is added to your online account, usually within 14 days.

    TOY SHOP GALORE

Build-a-Bear has kicked off its Black Friday sale and shoppers can get toys with up to 67% off.

The retailer has also slashed the prices on toy accessories – perfect for parents looking to stock up on Christmas presents.

Build-a-Bear's stores are currently closed in England due to the national lockdown, but you can get the discounts online too.

Just keep in mind that the retailer charges £3.99 for home delivery.

Here are just some of the discounted items…

    CHEAPEST EVER IPAD PRO

Amazon has released a Black Friday deal which sees the cheapest ever iPad Pro reduced to just £990.

The offer – which applies to the 256GB iPad Pro WiFi – is available for a limited time in Amazon's Black Friday sale 2020.

The iPad Pro 12.9 inch 256GB WiFi normally retails for £1069, meaning this price offers a saving of £78.80.

Apple released its 4th Generation iPad Pro earlier this year, and it's proved to be a huge hit with fans.

The device features Apple's most advanced camera on an iPad yet, with a 12MP Wide camera, 10MP Ultra Wide camera, and LiDAR Scanner.

WHERE CAN I FIND THE BEST DEALS?

These days, you'll find deals available online and in store throughout the extended Black Friday period.

While some stores haven't revealed when their sales will start, we've made some predictions of when early deals will take place at different retailers.

You can bag a deal by doing your homework beforehand and checking out the prices of items you're eyeing up ahead of time, that way you know you are actually getting a bargain.

And make sure you know exactly what you want and what your budget is – it's very easy to get sidetracked and end up buying things you don't need or spending more than you intended.

You can get all the latest on the best Black Friday deals here too – we'll be updating them when the sales launch and finding the biggest bargains for you.

HOW LONG DOES BLACK FRIDAY LAST?

Strictly speaking, Black Friday is just one day.

But since the trend took off there are many shops that extend their Black Friday sales for a few days either side and with some, it's even weeks.

That means Black Friday often starts earlier and that you'll start spotting deals ahead of this year's Black Friday on November 27.

The Monday after Black Friday is called Cyber Monday and that's when lots of online deals launched, whereas Black Friday was originally focused on in store promotions.

    WHEN IS BLACK FRIDAY?

Black Friday falls on the Friday after the annual US holiday of Thanksgiving, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of each November.

This means that this year it falls on November 27.

Some stores in the US open as early as midnight, but in the UK most open at 6am if they do open their doors early.

But many retailers will make their offers available from midnight online.

Last year's Black Friday sale was so big in the UK that metrics showed almost a 20% increase in online shoppers, with more deal hunters joining the fray and – crucially – staying active for longer.

And this year, with shoppers predicted to transition their shopping habits online due to lockdown rules, competition for deals will be fiercer than ever before.

WHERE DID BLACK FRIDAY COME FROM?

Thanksgiving is a federal holiday in the United States that originated as a harvest festival and has been celebrated on and off since 1789.

Many non-retail employees and schools have Thanksgiving and the following Friday off, creating a four-day weekend and increasing the number of potential shoppers.

The weekend traditionally marks the beginning of the holiday season ahead of Christmas and New Year.

The Friday after Thanksgiving came to be associated with shopping in the 1950s, though didn't gain the name Black Friday until later.

The tradition has spread elsewhere in recent decades, and is now marked in the UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, and a growing list of other countries.
