Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer in September, has been sharing her first experiences of chemotherapy with fans.
The 42-year-old DJ, who had surgery to remove a tumour in her bowel in October, started chemo yesterday and has revealed the treatment’s early side-effects have so far included a metallic taste, swollen fingers and sore teeth.
Roberts, who lives in London long-term partner Kate Holderness, returned to her Radio 1 Breakfast show at the weekend and told her 165,000 followers on Instagram on Monday that she was poised ‘to enter the matrix and disappear down the chemotherapy rabbit hole…’
The star added that she intended to try and continue with her daily life, saying: ‘I’m going to do my very best to carry on as normal as possible and see what this body can do.’

Pictured with a cup of tablets, the star documented her first experiences of chemo, saying the two doses she’s taken so far have left her with ‘massive fingers’ describing them ‘as like big sausages’.
She also revealed that an initial metallic taste had gone but that her teeth were ‘starting to hurt’.
The 42-year-old DJ shared that she’d been diagnosed with bowel cancer in an emotional post on October 24th, a month after learning she had the disease.
Today, she praised a NHS stoma nurse, Elaine, for being ‘Jedi-level’ with ‘so much passion’ for her job – after paying tribute to the NHS during her first show back since surgery on Saturday.

Speaking on her radio show at the weekend, Adele revealed it had only been a month since the procedure and told the listeners that she feels like she owes the NHS ‘her life.’
‘It’s a huge testament to the skill and knowledge and level of care at the NHS. They’re amazing. I owe them my life. I can’t thank them enough.’
She added: ‘I want to say thank you to you, before I start crying, the whole Radio 1 family who have been next level incredible, my nearest and dearest, and I just want to say one more thing as well – never underestimate the power of positivity and well wishes.

‘And even if you’ve just thought of someone it makes a difference I promise you. And I feel amazing, I feel lucky, I’m happy, I’m buzzing to back and I missed you.’
She continued: ‘I just want to say this, if you’re listening to this and you’re worried about anything please do not suffer in silence, go and see your GP that’s what I did, and I think that’s why I’m here today. I am just so grateful. So go and see them they’ll look after you, I promise.

Adele has been keeping her fans updated on social media with her journey to recovery.
She told her followers recently that ‘this little stoma bag helped save my life’ although she admitted it had been difficult to get used to, saying: ‘I feel like I need a trainer to help me tame it. It’s wild! Haha. It does what it wants when it wants… but I’m sure I’ll get there.’
The star has been inundated with support since she announced her illness.

Following the operation, Adele told her concerned followers: ‘Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone. You’ve been absolutely incredible! So kind, sending good wishes and looking after my family.’
Adele added: ‘You are the greatest! You’ve kept me going. I’ve had my ups and downs this week but today I really feel like I’m starting to turn a corner and hopefully I’ll be well enough to go home soon.’
Adele first found fame when she took part in the third series of Big Brother in 2002 alongside fellow housemates Jade Goody, Alison Hammond and winner Kate Lawler.
The presenter, from Southport, Merseyside, finished in seventh place after lasting 43 days in the house.
She spoke about being bisexual on the series, though she had not revealed her sexuality to her parents at the time.
Taking part in a panel hosted by charity RU Coming Out as reported by Gay Star News, she explained: ‘I had gone to university and had a girlfriend and everyone was cool about it but I hadn’t had that talk with my mum and dad.
