How much of what you wear is determined by where you live? No we don’t mean if you live in a chillier part of the UK you’re more likely to own a big coat, but literally how much of your fashion taste is a direct correlation of where you’re from.

While fashion trends come and go, our individual sense of style is formed by several factors. Even if it’s unwittingly, we all use our clothes to create a sense of identity and belonging, whether it’s to a subculture or movement, or aligning with our favourite celebrities or eras.

But a new survey suggests that where you’re from heavily impacts on what you wear too.

Fashion company Stitch Fix have used sophisticated algorithms in an interactive experience called, “Style Shuffle”, which has identified regional British clothing preferences using 30 million unique data points. Helping to fine tune every customer’s style preference, this has in turn led to these finds of regional fashion favourites. From their findings, along with separate research confirm that almost half of Brits say what they wear is influenced by where they live. And a third of young people aged 18-24 are confident they could pinpoint where someone is from based solely on their wardrobe choices.

  • Georgia Kousoulou shows off her Primark haul and it's giving us serious summer vibes

Stitch Fix is a subscription free, personal styling service, that will make shopping from home an absolute breeze.

Rich Simmons, Styling Team Supervisor at Stitch Fix UK said: “How we dress is a statement about who we are as people, and it’s fascinating to see that our style is influenced not just by celebrities and social media, but by those living in close proximity. We’re seeing micro cultures of fashion emerging in ways that haven’t previously been identified. As a company fuelled by style and data, it’s incredibly interesting for us to see these county-specific nuances come to light.”

Young people appear to be the most influenced by location, with 25% of 18-24 year olds admitting they change their style based on where they’re going out to. And a staggering 40% of us apparently assess someone based on the clothes they wear – first impressions really do matter then!

Meanwhile, when it comes to finding love, 47% of 25-34-year-olds confess that a person’s fashion sense truly does influence whether they swipe left or right.

So does what you wear, match your area?

In Cheshire guys are more likely to opt for a pair of slim black jeans, black button-down shirt, black trainers, while women are loving an all black look too with black skinny jeans, black leather jacket, black sling-backs and a little bit of on trend Zebra print.

Head down to Devon though and the look totally changes with men veering towards beige chinos, tartan shirt, suede ankle boots and women going for a more boho vibe in loose-fitting pastel dresses, Birkenstocks.

This might not surprise you and may feel a little stereotypical but when you head to Essex, women tend to go for leather trousers, leopard print blouse, fake fur jacket, snake-print heels while men will have a tendency to choose chinos, branded polo shirt, tweed blazer, brown dress shoes.

West Midlands women are apparently true floral fanatics, favouring beautiful bloom prints on wrap dresses and billowing-sleeved blouses.

On the London outskirts guys are most likely to grab blue jeans, blue button-down shirt, grey blazer, brown shoes, while women are keeping it chic in a black pleated midi skirt, button-down blouse, black chunky heels.

But when you head to Central London dwellers, there is definitely more or an independent hipster vibe, with green chinos, white t-shirt, blue button down, black backpack and white trainers being order of the day.

Going to Lancashire? Guys make sure to have light-blue jeans, grey polo shirt, grey hoodie, cameo jacket, black trainers at the ready if you want to fit in. While for the ladies, opt for distressed blue jeans, animal print dress, black heeled boots.

Heading to leafy Oxfordshire? Then pack a pair of grey chinos, paisley shirt or salmon polo, smart suede trainers. Ladies, style up a relaxed midi skirt, pastel chunky cardigan, brown brogues.

Do you think these fit with where you live?
