Donald & Melania Trump body language at Taj Mahal shows ‘rare moment of PDA’ between them

Melania Trump, 49, and Donald Trump, 73, are not known for ostentatious displays of affection. But even this usually stoic couple found themselves swept up in the romance of iconic landmark the Taj Mahal in India – and a body language expert has revealed the “romance” on show between the President and First Lady.

This is in direct contrast to arguably the most famous photograph taken at the location – that of Princess Diana in 1992.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Judi James said: “The iconic history of the Taj Mahal as the ultimate romantic statement of love and loss means every couple posing in front of it will perform some sort of intentional gesture or non-verbal signal of the state of their own relationship.

“Princess Diana flagged up the end of her marriage and her single status by sitting alone on the bench, surrounded by empty space that should have been filled by her husband Prince Charles.

“She looked isolated, sad and vulnerable, sitting with her legs tucked to one side in a self-diminished pose and using a head tilt and lip-twisting wry smile as a body language version of a shrug of regret.”

Looking at the Trumps today, Judi said: “In contrast with Diana’s uncoupling signals, the Trumps pose here in a state of conscious coupling veering on the self-conscious coupling, standing erect and mirrored in a rare moment of PDA.

“Status, strength and power are a given from the signals of this couple, who tend to prefer standing to attention to indulging in prolonged bouts of eye-gazing or even smooching, but the hand clasp with curled fingers does suggest that the romance of the location has affected the President and his First Lady.

“Their outfits even appear to be subtly co-ordinated, giving a bit of a ‘team of two’ feel to their messaging and although their smiles appear a little rigid and forced, there’s a hint that Trump might just see himself in the role of romantic lead here.”

Melania looked chic in a white jumpsuit for her first day in India, teaming it with a green sash.

The First Lady gave her look a pop of colour with a green scarf tied around her waist.

Melania and Donald were given a royal welcome at the airport that included live music and a red carpet.

They were also greeted by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi as they touched down.

The India visit is set to last two days and the President shared his excitement posting a tweet in Hindu.
