Prince Harry has confirmed that he and Meghan did announce the Duchess’ first pregnancy at Princess Eugenie’s wedding – before describing how he helped deliver his daughter Lilibet.

In his explosive new biography Spare, Prince Harry revealed that him and his wife told the Prince and Princess of Wales the happy news during a cocktail party following the reception in October 2018.

It is just one of many glimpses into Meghan and Harry’s lives, as well as Archie and Lilibet’s early days, detailed in his bombshell memoir Spare – which was mistakenly released in Spain yesterday.

Detailing Meghan’s pregnancy with their first child, Archie, now three, Harry said they felt obliged to tell his family the news in person before leaving for their tour of Australia in late 2018.

They chose his cousin Eugenie’s Windsor wedding to make the announcement as the wider members of the Royal Family would be in attendance.

Ahead of the drinks reception, the couple intercepted Charles in his Windsor office and Harry said he was delighted to see his father’s ‘wide smile’ after finding out he was going to be a grandfather for the fourth time.

Following this, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex then headed over to St George’s Hall where the drinks reception was being held to tell Prince William.

He echoed their father’s sentiment and urged them to immediately tell Kate. The Princess of Wales was across the room speaking with her sister Pippa Middleton, who was expecting her son Arthur at the time.

Describing Kate’s reaction, Harry wrote: ‘She also gave a big smile and hearty congratulations. They both reacted exactly as I hoped — as I’d wished.’

Although the couple didn’t make the news public until days later, Princess Eugenie’s mother Sarah Ferguson was said to be ‘furious’ that the couple ‘upstaged’ the bride.

In their book Royals At War, investigative journalists Dylan Howard and Andy Tillet wrote: ‘This was a huge social gaffe, even if you were not a royal – stealing the limelight from Eugenie, who was furious, as was her mother, Sarah.’

Later on in the book, Prince Harry opens up about his one-year-old daughter Lilibet Diana’s birth and how it compared with Archie’s delivery in 2019.

During the Duchess’ first labour, Prince Harry describes how the pair’s bodyguards bought a Nando’s takeaway to the hospital. He also recalls using laughing gas to calm his nerves.

In contrast, he says the pair felt ‘safer and calmer’ going into Lilibet’s delivery two years later.

He wrote: ‘When the doctor said it was a question of minutes, I told Meg the first thing I wanted was for the little baby to see my face. We knew it would be a girl. She agreed and pressed my hand.’

With the doctor overseeing the whole thing, Harry explained how he helped to deliver his daughter into the world.

He then handed her over to Meghan – who later told him that she had ‘never been as in love with him as she was in that moment’ – so she could do skin-to-skin with her daughter.

The couple announced the birth of their daughter in June 2016 and named her Lilibet Diana in honour of Harry’s late mother and grandmother.

What’s more, Prince Harry writes in extraordinary detail about how Meghan and the Princess of Wales were both left in tears during the infamous bridesmaid dress row, while also detailing a disagreement over a shared lip gloss – and how Kate was left hurt by Meghan’s comments about her ‘baby brain’ while pregnant.

The Duke also describes how his first home with Meghan, Nottingham Cottage, was worlds away from the grandeur of William and Kate’s Kensington Palace apartment.

In June 2018, Prince Harry claims he visited his brother and sister’s London home with Meghan Markle to clear the air after a series of disagreements.

During the frosty meeting, where Prince William accused Meghan of being ‘rude’, Harry says the Prince and Princess of Wales’ lavish apartment left him and his wife feeling ’embarrassed’ by their ‘cosy’ living quarters.
