Here's How Bridgerton Explained Regé-Jean Page's Absence from Season 2

Bridgerton Season 2 is officially on Netflix! And while IT IS LITERALLY SO GOOD AND LORD ANTHONY AND KATE SHARMA ARE EVERYTHING (sorry, cannot contain my all-caps enthusiasm), Regé-Jean Page, aka the Duke of Hastings, is sadly nowhere to be found.

So, how did the show explain his absence? Daphne shows up in the opening moments of Season 2 to be there for Eloise’s debut in front of the Queen, and while impatiently waiting for her to get ready says “Do you realize that I left my husband and child at home for this?”

So basically, the Duke is busy chilling at home with his cute baby. That’s that! Of course, we already knew that Regé-Jean wouldn’t be in Bridgerton Season 2 because Netflix announced the bummer news back in April 2021, writing the following note to fans:

But to be fair, the Duke of Hastings was always meant to be a one-season character—which Regé-Jean explained to Variety, saying he was told “It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end—give us a year. [I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.” He added, “I have nothing but excitement for Bridgerton continuing to steam train off and conquer the globe. But there is also value in completing these arcs and sticking the landing.”
