DEAR DEIDRE: FOR the last five months I have been emailing a girl who lives in South Africa.
At first, she told me she was 19, but I discovered she is only 15.
I live in Manchester. We have been contacting one another by email.
She’s like a pen pal. I helped her with geography lessons as her school was on lockdown and she has been doing online lessons.
She appreciates my help and we email about our interests. I don’t see any harm in helping her, do you?

DEIDRE SAYS: You genuinely believed this girl was near your age.
You aren’t doing anything wrong but do be very careful that your emails don’t become more intimate or sexual in nature, as this could be considered as online grooming.
