Jubilee celebrations going on around the UK and how to attend including free events

Parties will be held across the country for the Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years since the Queen ascended the throne.

Thanks to the four-day bank holiday weekend from June 2 to June 5, there’s plenty of time to celebrate.

Whether it’s going to a street party with your neighbours or attending one of the incredible events being organised throughout the UK, there’s something for everyone.

Here are some of the events which are taking place across the country, including some free ideas.

London

Trooping the Colour, June 2 Queen’s annual birthday parade which will head down The Mall to Horse Guards Parade and will feature the iconic RAF flypast over Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Family will be out in force on the balcony so make sure you get a good place in the crowd to spot them.

On Saturday 4 there will be the Platinum Party at the Palace taking place in the evening. Although tickets have already been distributed via a ballot, the event will be broadcast by the BBC so you don’t have to miss out on the celebrations.

Cardiff

A spectacular outdoor concert will be held in the Welsh capital on June 4. The Cardiff Castle Jubilee Celebration Concert will feature big names including Aled Jones, Mike Peters and Bonnie Tyler.

Even weatherman Owain Wyn Evans will take to the stage with his drums, while there will also be performances from the Pendyrus Male Voice Choir.

Adult day tickets are priced at £32.50 and children under the age of 16 can attend for free with every full paying adult. Additional under 16s are £12.50. Under 4s are free. You can buy tickets from here.

Manchester

Over the Jubilee weekend the streets of Manchester city centre will be full of flowers and garden installations as The Manchester Flower Show takes place.

The event is free to attend and you can take it at a relaxed pace, stopping for some al fresco dining and a drink or two.

Windsor

Now the chosen home of the Queen, Windsor is certainly celebrating the Jubilee in style. On June 2 there will be fireworks on the Long Walk and the beacon will be lit, along with hundreds of others across the country.

On June 3 there will be a concert at St George’s Chapel while on June 4 there will be a Jubilee Picnic In The Park on the Long Walk, featuring a display of cars from different years of the Queen’s reign. The weekend will draw to a close with the Big Lunch on June 5.

Tickets for the concert have sold out but if any are returned they will be put back up for sale. No tickets are required for the Jubilee Picnic. Tables for the Big Lunch can be booked for £1.50 and bookings open at 5pm on May 5, closing on May 27. For more details click here.

Birmingham

Birmingham is going big with the Jubilee celebrations with four days of live music, entertainment and food being offered in Victoria Square.

There will be performances from local musicians as well as tribute acts to British legends, a fun fair for children and a selection of food and drink stalls. The event is free to attend.
