The three best friends behind some of the most jaw-dropping home renovations in Australia have shared the simple last-minute craft ideas that will improve the look of your home this Christmas Day.

Bonnie, Erin and Lana, from Sydney, form the Three Birds Renovations team, and have spent the past five years transforming people’s homes and turning them into stylish escapes.

Now, the friends have revealed how you can make your home look great on December 25, by wrapping cushions, spray painting pine cones and creating hula hoop wreaths.

The three best friends behind jaw-dropping home renovations in Australia have shared the simple last-minute craft ideas that will improve the look of your home this Christmas

1. Pine cone decorations

If you want to give your home a rustic festive flair, Three Birds recommend you invest in a spray can of Dulux Duruamax Bright Finish spray paint in a metallic colour and get some pine cones.

‘Spray the pine cones with the paint and pop them on your Christmas tree,’ they wrote on their website.

‘Even if you’re no Martha Stewart, you shouldn’t struggle with this.’

Their second trick is a hula hoop wall hanging, which can be hung on your front door as a wreath or on walls throughout your home (pictured as it’s being made)

‘Hardy tree foliage will last longer than flowers and soft greenery,’ they said

2. Hula hoop wall hangings

Their second trick is a hula hoop wall hanging, which can be hung on your front door as a wreath or on walls throughout your home.

‘You’ll need a hula hoop of any size, a spray can of Dulux Duramax Bright Finish spray paint (we chose gold) and tie wire from a garden shop or hardware store,’ the Three Birds said.

Next, they said they ‘raided’ the garden for branches to use.

‘Hardy tree foliage will last longer than flowers and soft greenery,’ they said.

‘Spray the Hula hoops with paint, leaving to dry as per instructions.

‘Attach the greenery using tie wire.’

If you want to ‘dress up’ your sofa for the festive season, you could try wrapping your cushions in materials you have lying around like muslin cloth (pictured)

3. Wrapped cushions

If you want to ‘dress up’ your sofa for the festive season, you could try wrapping your cushions in materials you have lying around.

‘For this, all you need is your favourite cushion and some muslin material,’ they said.

Next, cut the muslin into strips long enough to wrap around the cushion and tie it round the cushion like a present, finishing off with a neat bow.

Speaking previously to FEMAIL, the friends shared their tips for others trying to renovate on a budget, as well as the most common things people get wrong.

What are the three golden rules of styling?

1. Create a vision board showing how you want a space to look and how you want to feel in it before you even start.

2. Remember bigger is not always better. The space around your furniture is just as important as having big pieces of furniture.

3. Remember new soft furnishings can often refresh many rooms. You don’t always need to carry out giant renovations to get great results.

According to Three Birds, the most important thing to remember with styling is that you need to have a finished room in mind before you even think about starting.

‘Create a vision board showing how you want a space to look and more importantly, how you want to feel,’ Lana told Daily Mail Australia.

‘Your vision board should be your guiding light on all styling decisions – but it’s vital you have one before you start your project.’

Whether it’s digital or a physical board you pin ideas and styles to, the Three Birds advocate beginning one of these boards several months before starting on a renovation.

‘The vision board is the only chance you have for staying on track with your style and achieving the result you’ve always dreamed of,’ Bonnie said.

The second thing you should remember if looking to make over a room is that bigger is not always better.

‘Don’t fall into the trap of trying to fit in the largest pieces of furniture that can technically fit into a room,’ Erin said.

‘The air space around your furniture is just as important as the furniture itself.’

They said they spend on stone benchtops, appliances and quality flooring but save on doors, handles, pots and furnishings ‘as the untrained eye can’t tell the difference’

If you’re looking to carry out a Champagne renovation on a beer budget, the friends recommend ‘spraying your exterior bricks instead of rendering to transform an ugly brick exterior’.

They also said stores such as Bunnings Warehouse do great off-the-shelf French doors, which can add a stylish finish without breaking the budget.

‘If you need tradies to help you to transform a space, then have them commit to a fixed price for the work to be done, regardless of how many hours it’s going to take,’ Lana said.

When it comes to what you should splurge and save on, the women said ‘in our home renos, we like to splurge on things like stone benchtops, appliances and quality flooring’.

‘We will then save on doors, handles, pots and furnishings, as the untrained eye cannot tell the difference.’
