M&S replaces Little Shop plastic toys with Little Garden collectable seed kits

Last year, Marks and Spencer gave away lots of tiny toys for kids in their Little Shop collection.

If you spent over £20, you got a mystery bag with a tiny version of one of their food products, including Percy Pigs and Colin the Caterpillar.

There were 25 to collect but the brand faced some criticism for using plastic.

Little Shop ended last summer and now they’re back with a new version – Little Garden.

This time, instead of plastic toys, you can get seed kits containing one biodegradable pot, one soil tablet, one seed label and one seed mat.

It’s really easy to start growing each one – just mix the tablet with water to create soil and plant the mat in the pot, before adding the label.

There are 12 to collect: basil, beetroot, carrot, chilli pepper, forget-me-not, lettuce, micro cress, pansy, parsley, pepper, radish and viola.

M&S said: ‘Little Garden is a fun activity for families to learn about growing their own plants – from the power of nature, how plants grow, what can be homegrown and cooking with the fresh herbs and vegetables.’

You get one for every £20 you spend – so if you spend £40 in one transaction, you’ll get two kits, for example.

Unfortunately, it’s only when you are shopping in the food hall – clothing, homeware and M&S cafe purchases don’t count.

The promotion runs from now until mid-April, or until stocks last.

And if you want to buy some accessories to help your kids get into gardening, you can buy a watering can and garden tool set from just £3.

There’s also a range of gardening related activities and competitions on the Little Garden website.
