TikTok star Chantel Mila, who is from Melbourne, Australia, regularly shares helpful short videos detailing her unique household tricks and clever tips.

She has posted a clip demonstrating how to check if your pillows need replacing, as most have expiration dates you may not be aware of.

Chantel explained "Pillows harbour dust, skin cells + oils so they expire after 1-2 years," in her insightful clip.

If you can't remember the last time you replaced your pillows, then Chantel's hack can help you decide if it's time to purchase some new ones or if yours are still in tact.

She started off her demonstration by folding one of her pillows in half, and told her followers that you should then hold it in place for 30 seconds.

Once you've let go, if your pillow bounces back then it's still fresh, but if it doesn't then it could have reached its expiration date.

Thousands of stunned TikTok users revealed that they had no idea that their pillows had expiration dates, with one person commenting: 'This is such a good idea, I never knew you could do this".

A second TikTok user added: "Thanks for the tip – going to check mine right now".

Chantel has amassed over 870,000 on TikTok thanks to her trusty household hacks and tips, and has also provided a quick tutorial showing how you can keep your pillows fresh.

She revealed the specific method she uses to wash her pillows, which includes washing just two at a time and using liquid detergent to make sure they get cleaned properly.

Next up, she places them into a tumble dryer with a rolled up towel, which she claims is "the secret to fluff your pillows".

The new pillow hack comes after a cleaning expert recently revealed how to get rid of yellow stains from pillows, and it only requires two simple things.

While you can purchase a cleaning spray from a shop, you can easily create your own at home by mixing baking soda and water together, the expert revealed.

Lifehacker gurus said: "You can start off by spot treating the stains with either a store-bought stain removal spray or cream or with a paste made out of a mixture of baking soda and water."

By spraying the pillows and cleaning them, the stains will begin to disappear and hopefully remain gone.

Another top tip is to buy a waterproof pillow protector, which will prevent moisture to from getting into your pillows in the first instance.
