Queen Letizia looked casual yet elegant in a striped shirt as she stepped out in Madrid for a spot of shopping this afternoon.

The Spanish royal, 50, rocked a white, long-sleeved top with black horizontal stripes, paired with black jeans, as she visited the Madrid Book Fair.

She added a cross-body black leather bag to her look and opted for a pair of black pointed ballet pumps on her feet.

During her visit, the Queen stopped to take selfies with adoring royal fans, who beamed for photos with her.

However overall, the former journalist appeared utterly engrossed in the contents of the fair, showing herself to be something of a bookworm.

The Queen’s visit to the book fair comes after she appeared at an awards ceremony for the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day in the Spanish capital – where she showed her caring side during a mishap.

As an award winner, María de los Ángeles García Antón, walked onstage to meet the Queen, she tripped up, according to El Espanol.

In videos of the blunder online, an excited María can be seen being helped up some steps when her name was called – before suddenly slipping down, as the Queen and others on stage rush to help her up.

After everyone ensured she was alright, the royal, 50, put her arms around the winner in a quick side hug, appearing to check that all was OK.

María graciously smiled the accident off, bowing to applause as she accepted the award.

Letizia was effortlessly elegant in a chic patterned €325 (£280.88) Philippa1970 dress as she attended the engagement, donning a perfectly summery ensemble as she commemorated the organisation’s staff and volunteers, who provide tireless support for vulnerable communities across the globe.

The button-up design featured an eye-catching print and warm hues of oranges and reds contrasted with darker blue.

She sported black stiletto heels and accessorised with a £1,100 Carolina Herrera bag in a fun, bubblegum pink.

The mother-of-two opted for a simple dewy make-up look, styling her chestnut tresses in relaxed waves.

Letizia presided over the celebrations, which focused on Red Cross’s international humanitarian work.
