‘Scoob!’ movie trailer shows how Scooby and Shaggy met

Zoinks! The mystery of Scooby-Doo’s origin story has been solved, according to a trailer for the upcoming animated feature “Scoob!”

Before the teaser launches, Scooby — portrayed by longtime voice actor Frank Welker — pumps up the crew’s worth, intoning in his best trailer-narrator voice, “In a world destroyed by evil discover the epic origin story of the greatest team of heroes in the history of mystery.”

We then learn that Shaggy, played by Will Fort (“The Last Man on Earth”), first meets Scooby as a stray on the beach. He immediately names him Scooby Dooby Doo — after a box of Scooby Snacks junk food he’s munching on — so that he a cop doesn’t take the poor pup to the pound.

After bonding with Fred (Zac Efron), Daphne (Amanda Seyfried) and Velma (Gina Rodriguez), the amateur sleuths form their now-legendary crime-solving collective, Mystery Inc. Fast-forward hundreds of cases and adventures later, and the group is focusing on their biggest mystery yet: Who has unleashed the mythological ghost dog Cerberus on the world, kicking off a “dogpocalypse”? The gang also comes to realize, according to the official description, Scooby “has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.” Ruh-roh!

Expect plenty of humor — like when Scooby mistakes the glowing, blue interior of a spaceship for an Ikea — and Scooby’s trademark chuckle as he cracks up at his own jokes.

The full-length film, directed by Tony Cervone (“Space Jam”), also features the voices of Tracy Morgan, Mark Wahlberg, Kiersey Clemons and Ken Jeong.
