A DIY enthusiast has shared her stunning bedroom transformation, estimating that she saved over £400 by building the wall panelling herself from old MDF boards.
Jade Williamson, from Northern Ireland, took to Facebook page Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, revealing how she took advantage of lockdown to update the old-fashioned twenties style bedroom in the cottage she bought last year.
Jade said the project has taken around two months, and cutting the MDF panels to size, before attaching them using Gripfill and painting the finished panels an emerald green cost just £90 – compared to the £500 it would have cost to have it done professionally.

As well as redoing the tired pale blue walls with the panelling, Jade and her husband Gordon ripped up the old floral carpet, and replaced the furniture with finds at TK Maxx.
After saving hundreds on building the panels herself, Jade splashed out on the furniture, spending around £800 on the bed, bedside tables, plants, lamps and mirrors, as well as a patterned rug.
She told FEMAIL: ‘My bedroom took a lot of work, maybe two months, we had damp to repair and floor joists to replace as well as new window installed.
‘The actual decoration and panelling was completed in two days, I did the wood panelling with MDF boards and stuck them to the wall with Gripfill. The panelling cost £90, other furniture was sourced from TK Maxx.’

‘We saved so much money as I literally did all the work myself, panelling is quite labour-intensive, but I have learnt wood working skills from my dad along the way as we have been restoring my house.’
Jade, who shares her cottage transformations at @twentieshouse added: ‘We bought our cottage a year ago, it was very run down. I’ve always had a passion for interiors and this house presented a great opportunity to design from scratch.
‘I search reclaimation yards and go to car boot sales, always on the hunt for unusual items. I love a room to feel cosy with lots of textures.
‘I start a room design with how I want to feel in a room, and this room design makes me feels relaxed, the dark walls also make it easier to sleep as well.’
