Wetherspoons reopening 860 pubs on May 17 as full menu and meal clubs return

Wetherspoons fans will be excited to hear that the pub chain is reopening 860 pubs for indoor service from next Monday (May 17) as coronavirus restrictions are eased further.

Punters will also be able to enjoy the pub's full menu again too, as well as its meal clubs, such as curry and steak nights.

The announcement comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed yesterday (May 10) that England can move into phase 3 of his roadmap out of lockdown from May 17 as planned.

This means pubs and restaurants in England can reopen for indoor service, while hotels can take holidaymakers for staycations again.

Wetherspoons is planning to open 309 more pubs next week, including a new branch – The Buck Inn in Northallerton.

It's pubs will open from 8am until midnight from Sunday through to Thursday, and 8am until 1am on Friday and Saturday.

There are just six pubs the chain won't be reopening. These are two at the NEC in Birmingham, and ones at Stansted, Doncaster, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.

Pubs have only been allowed to open their beer gardens since April 12, however only 40% of the industry has been able to do so, according to industry bodies.

Currently, 438 Wetherspoons pubs in England are open, but they are offering a reduced menu due to limited seating capacity.

This has meant that 'Spoons fans have missed out on its famous curries, mixed grills and steaks since the pub reopened.

However, from next week, meal deals will be back on – seeing the return on the boozer's Steak Club, Curry Club, Fish Friday and Sunday brunch.

The deals include a meal and a drink, however prices vary depending on the branch so it's worth checking before you place your order.

Customers typically pay around £7.95 for a Curry Club meal with an alcoholic drink or £6.65 for a soft drink with your food.

Despite lockdown rules easing, customers will still have to follow a strict set of rules when pubs reopen for indoor service. This includes wearing a mask when not sat at a table.

In Wales, there are currently 32 Wetherspoons branches open for outdoor service, with the remaining 18 are expected to open for indoor dining from Monday too.

The 60 Wetherspoons pubs in Scotland are already open for indoor customers, although they're not allowed to serve alcohol, except to outdoor drinkers.

Three branches in Northern Ireland are also open for outdoor service. Restrictions are not expected to ease here to allow indoor service until May 24.
