A woman has transformed the space under her stairs into a remarkable dog house for her three-month-old Goldendoodle⁣, a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle.

Kimberley Lewis, 32, an office manager from Houston, Texas, bought little Jersey in September, and decided she wanted to make an extra special space for her.

The mother-of-three, who has racked up 8,000 followers by sharing pictures of the pup onto her Instagram Jersey Girl, decided to transform the empty space under her stairs into a luxury kennel.

Costing just $300, Kimberley and her welder husband William, 33, knocked through the wall under the stairs and turned the space into a miniature dog home complete with front door, mailbox, a thermostat and a camera so they can see and speak to her when they aren’t home.

The couple even decorate it according to season, and it currently boasts a Christmas wreath on the door.

Speaking to Femail, Kimberley said: ‘My husband and I started by sketching out our idea of the house on the blank wall under the stairs, cutting the door space out, and creating the door frame.

‘We then mounted a switch box and ran electrical through the interior walls so we could introduce an interior and exterior light switch, a thermostat and even a dog camera.

‘Afterwards we added a doorframe and painted everything, before adding finishing touches like her dog bed, her bowls, an outside letterbox, a lantern and her portrait.

She jokingly added: ‘It was actually a lot of fun, seeing my dream come to a reality was really neat, the further we got the more excited we became.

‘Thankfully we completed with out my husband sleeping in the dog house.’

The house currently has a cute wreath hanging on the front door, and Kimberley admitted: ‘We like to decorate for the holidays for her, just like we do our house’.

Speaking of the unusual luxuries it contains, she continued: ‘The house has a custom head piece that looks just like her on the top of the house, and we added a camera so I can see Jersey when we’re not home and can talk to her if needed.

She added: ‘We’re adding a ‘treat camera’ soon to where I can give her a treat if we are gone, and a thermostat so we can always make sure the temperature is good for her.

‘She even has a mailbox as she gets lots of mail from her Instagram friends, as well as a front porch light, and a wall with a play area with toys we added for during the puppy stage for litter training and chewing’.

Speaking about Jersey’s reaction to the home, Kimberley said: ‘She absolutely loves it.

‘From day one she went right in, and that really surprised me as I expected her to be scared or not want to go inside.

‘I feel like it made her first days of being in a new house much easier and she seemed to really enjoy her own space. It gave her somewhere to feel safe and comfortable, and she loves the toys on the wall which I change regularly.

‘We leave the door open unless we are gone, and she just goes in and out of her room as she wishes’.

Kimberley continued: ‘I wanted her to have a room just as we all do in our house, she’s part of our family, even the kids love to play inside it with her.

‘You couldn’t find a more friendly, affectionate, loving dog than a Goldendoodle’.
