A Scottish woman sparked fierce debate while questioning if she’s a ‘dirty dish monster’ for not running the tap while doing the dishes.

Taking to Reddit, she outlined soaking her plates ‘in a basin with hot water and soapy suds’.

The curious cleaner, who is from Glasgow, added that she is methodical in her strategy, going from cleanest to dirtiest, so that the water doesn’t become too dirty.

‘Glasses, mugs washed first,’ she explained. ‘Plates, pots, pans last. If water gets pretty murky then I will get rid and refill basin and crack on.’

The poster, who goes by Scotgrl, said however that she’s noticed ‘a lot of people with no basin’, who clean the dishes in the sink while letting the water run.

The distressed dishwasher clarified that she has ‘not yet died of residual excess Fairy Liquid consumption’, after some commenters expressed their concerns over soap residue.

The viral post has racked up thousands of replies, ranging in their views.

Some were disgusted that anyone would wash their dishes in ‘dirty water’ and then wouldn’t ‘rinse them off at all’.

‘I never liked this method,’ one person admitted. ‘Yes there is soap I get that, but it doesn’t make sense of cleaning them in dirty water, even if you rinse them off.

‘I’ve also noticed people who clean like this their dishes smell, Especially if egg or another smelly food is involved.’

One person even clamed they can ‘taste soap’ if dishes aren’t rinsed, adding that the soaking strategy is ‘mostly just a British thing’.

Others admitted to a blend of methodologies.

Few seemed shaken by the revelation, disgusted that anyone would wash their dishes in ‘dirty water’ and then wouldn’t ‘rinse them off at all’

One poster claimed they keep the tap on a ‘moderate dribble’, while another detailed ‘a combination of the two’ systems.

However, not everyone was as horrified, nor worried about getting dish soap-flavoured food.

They said as long as the dishes got done, that’s all that matters.

‘Are the dishes coming out if (sic) clean?’ a commenter asked. ‘If the answer is yes, you’re doing it right.’

A second simply joked: ‘The correct method is to leave them with water in to soak and hope someone else finishes them off for you.’
