Corrie’s Katie McGlynn shares emotional tweet following character’s death

Katie McGlynn, 26, has taken to Twitter to thanks fans and the Coronation Street crew for their "amazing support".

The small screen actress has portrayed the character of Sinead Tinker for seven years, and decided to leave the soap to pursue other projects.

Writers of the soap killed off the mum-of-one, following her battle with cervical cancer.

Taking to Twitter after tonight's tragic scenes aired, she told her 93,000 followers she was touched by the support Sinead received throughout her cancer diagnosis.

The post read: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your amazing support and love.

"Thank you to every single person who makes Coronation Street the brilliant show that it is and most importantly, thank you to every single viewer for following Sinead’s journey."

Viewers of the show praised the star's brave portrayal, with many confessing they ended up crying over Sinead's final moments.

"Extremely hard to watch but incredible how you both have played this story line," one user wrote.

Another continued: "Thank you for playing Sinead. Don't think there was a dry eye in the house tonight. If you don't win every award possible at the NTAs I'd be very shocked. Quite simply, you're an amazing actress and you'll be missed from Corrie very much."

And a third agreed: "Not a regular viewer of Corrie but tuned in tonight and bawled the whole time. Stunning performance from you all."

Katie posted another heartfelt tweet, and comforted people who have been affected by cancer, encouraging them to "be brave and fight".

"To every single person that is, or has been affected by cancer, stay strong!"

"Seek comfort in family, friends and loved ones. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and don’t be afraid to feel however it is you feel! My heart is with you all, be brave and fight."
