Drake Tops Nominations for 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards

The ‘What’s Next’ hitmaker is a frontrunner to be a big winner at the 17th annual awards event as he scores 14 nominations out of 17 categories to be competed for.

AceShowbizDrake is the strongest contender at the upcoming BET Hip Hop Awards. The Canadian superstar leads the full nominations for the 17th annual awards event which were announced on Monday, September 12, bagging 14 nods out of 17 categories to be competed for.

The Certified Lover Boy is up for Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, Hip Hop Album of the Year, Hip Hop Artist of the Year and Hustler of the Year. He also receives two nominations for Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse, three for Best Collaboration, two for Best Hip Hop Video and two for Song of the Year.

Following Drake’s lead is his rival Kanye West with 10 nominations. The Atlanta native also eyes Best Live Performer, Hip Hop Album of the Year, Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Hustler of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video, Best Collaboration, Song of the Year and Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse in addition to landing in categories such as Producer of the Year and Impact Track.

Kendrick Lamar trails behind with 9 nods, including Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, Hip Hop Album of the Year, Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Video Director of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video and twice for Impact Track.

Other artists bagging multiple nominations are Doja Cat, Latto (formerly Mulatto), Lil Durk, Tems and Young Thug with three nominations with three each. Meanwhile, Benny The Butcher, City Girls, Fivio Foreign, GloRilla, Jay-Z, Megan Thee Stallion, Nas and Usher nab two nods each.

The 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards will be taped on Thursday, September 30 at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta and air on Tuesday, October 4 at 9 P.M. ET on BET. Fat Joe has been announced as the host.

“This will be the BIGGEST award show in history,” Fat Joe told Billboard of being tapped for the gig. “It’s truly an honor to host and produce the BET Hip Hop Awards, and I can’t thank Connie and the entire BET family enough for this opportunity.”
