Helen Flanagan shares huge career news five years after Coronation Street exit

Helen Flanagan's acting comeback has finally been confirmed – five years after her Sophie Webster character departed Coronation Street.

In a stunning career move, the 33-year old has landed a major part in the West End after admitting she had been "looking for the right part for ages". The mother-of-three was announced as part of the 2024 UK tour of Cluedo 2 – The Next Chapter on Monday (November 28), which will see her star as the iconic Miss Scarlett.

Helen will feature alongside Jason Durr – known best for his lengthy roles in both Heartbeat and Casualty – who will star as Colonel Mustard. Struggling to contain her excitement, Helen revealed: "I've long been looking for the right theatre role for ages and I'm so excited to be making my stage acting debut in the iconic role of Miss Scarlett. It could not be more perfect!"

She continued: "Cluedo 2 is going to be so much fun and I am thrilled to be working alongside such a great actor as Jason. I can't wait to begin rehearsals in the New Year, and, of course, wear the famous red dress!"

Jason, 55, added: "I'm thrilled to be joining the cast of Cluedo 2 as Colonel Mustard. I was a huge fan of the Cluedo board game as a child and the Colonel is such a great character. I am looking forward to bringing laughter and this ultimate whodunnit to audiences across the UK in its 75th anniversary year."

Written by BAFTA winners Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran and Olivier Award winning Mark Bell, the play has been advertised as "a rollocking spoof of a comedy that will keep you guessing right up to the final twist and invites budding detectives of all ages, from 8 to 80 and beyond, to watch for the clues and unravel the secrets, as we all try to work out whodunnit…. with what… and where!"

The five month tour begins at Richmond Theatre on 29 February, 2024 and continues across the country taking in Woking, York, Brighton, Cambridge, Salford, Hull, Milton Keynes, Shrewsbury, Malvern, Bath, Sheffield, Nottingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, Southampton, Cardiff, Norwich, Truro, Cheltenham, Birmingham and Dartford.

It follows several reports over the past 12 months that Helen could be heading back to Weatherfield, with the star herself revealing in May that she would "love" to return to the show, in an exclusive interview with Daily Star.

And speaking on Steph's Packed Lunch at the time, she added: "Honestly because I’m not having much luck myself I would love to be a Coronation Street bride" Referring to her split from ex-fiancé Scott Sinclair, she continued: "Please actually, Coronation Street please can you give me my wedding!"

She also revealed: "I’d also love to be a Coronation Street barmaid because that’s quite iconic." A return to the Cobbles seems unlikely now, however, as Helen embarks on her stage career.
