Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen says Carol Smilie too busy burying people for TV return

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has explained why the former Changing Rooms host Carol Smilie won't be coming back to the world of TV.

The current face of Changing Rooms, Laurence, explained that he wasn't surprised when Carol didn't get the call this time around as she had chosen to leave before he even took on the role.

The reboot of the Channel 4 show returned last year with Laurence at the helm and Naked Attraction host Anna Richardson alongside him.

Talking about the show's new lineup, he said: "I thought it was funny when everyone started going on about her not coming back to the reboot as she was the one who left the series in the first place, which is why I took over presenting.

"So, I wasn't surprised, Channel 4 had fallen out with her the first time about…

"Anyways, she is busy being a celebrant now, she is marrying and burying people, and I thought what a grown-up thing to do.

"She was always terribly smiley so that's exactly what you want to see at the end of the aisle or when the curtain closes on your coffin really, Carol smiling you into the next world."

Laurence also went on to reveal what it is like working with co-host Anna Richardson, with him branding her as the "fine-tuned naughtiness".

He says this is a given due to her other main presenting job which involves "staring at genitalia" on Naked Attraction, which he finds strangely "convenient" that it generally comes on TV "when the pubs close".

Laurence is also currently working on the Ideal Home Show, having returned for his tenth year.

Talking about the show, he said: "This is such a critical time of year for our homes we've been in semi-hibernation in Britain and everything looking a bit drab and dusty and a little bit dog-eared so actually now there's a little more daylight and the sun is streaming in frankly your unwashed windows, so it's a great time for the show.

"The Ideal Home Show has always been amazing and it gives you ideas of trends and colours and it's much easier being able to see it in person than looking online.

"It's my tenth tear ribbon cutting and I've been working for the Ideal Home Show a lot longer than tht, it's a very important part of the seasonal calendar like Ascot or the Chelsea Flower Show."

The Ideal Home Show, in partnership with NatWest, the world’s longest-running exhibition, is back at Olympia London until Sunday 27th March 2022. A host of experts and celebrities will be hosting Q&As on stage throughout the 17 days at the show. For more information and tickets, please visit idealhomeshow.co.uk
