Nicola McLean says Caroline Flack was ‘terrified’ of trial over alleged assault

Nicola McLean has spoken out after her close friend Caroline Flack tragically died last weekend aged 40.

The former glamour model, 38, appeared to slam the impending trial and insisted it "definitely worried her" as she admitted to being in regular contact with the Love Island host.

The reality star described how she regularly checked up on Caroline, but that she feared having to face trial over the alleged assault on her boyfriend Lewis Burton, 27, from her December arrest.

The blonde bombshell also suggested the TV host should have been in South Africa presenting on Love Island as she doesn't believe the outcome would have been the same.

Nicola told The Jeremy Vine Show today: "Everyone who was her friend was definitely worried about her. I was worried about her. I did what we all did and reached out to her.

"We were always in conversation anyway and we checked if she was alright and obviously she wasn't."

She also admitted the late star was 'terrified' of the upcoming trial following the alleged assault, saying: "She was terrified of the trial and who wouldn't have been? It was so wrong."

Insisting everyone needs to take something away from Caroline's tragic death so it doesn't happen again, Nicola added: "Caroline went far too quickly.

"We don't want anyone else to suffer the same."

However she finished her defiant tribute with a subtle dig at the hit ITV2 dating show as she said: "She should have been in South Africa presenting Love Island… and we would have had a different outcome."

Nicola's defiant tribute comes just days after an inquest opened at Poplar Coroners' Court surrounding the 40-year-old's death.

The former Love Island star was found dead at her home in Stoke Newington on Saturday 15 February after taking her own life.

The court adjourned the full hearing until August 5.
