At this point, Rihanna is seemingly doing everything but releasing new music. When she’s not launching new Fenty Beauty products, she’s either drawing up designs for her fashion line, kicking back with her boyfriend, or trolling fans who ask about said music.
It’s making people seriously anxious, and some are even losing hope that new tunes are coming. But they shouldn’t because the wait is reportedly almost over. According to journalists who recently attended a Universal Music event, Rihanna will release her highly-anticipated ninth studio album later this year.

According to multiple reports, the news came on Sept. 6 when Universal Music France held its annual “Open Session,” where it reveals its list of upcoming albums. Rihanna reportedly made the list, with her album set to release in December.
Steven Bellery, a journalist working at RTL Radio who attended the event, broke the news on Twitter.
As of writing, Rihanna has not commented on the reports. However, she previously said the album would come out in 2019, so get excited. (!!!)
It’ll be her first album since 2016’s Anti, which spawned hits like “Needed Me” and “Work.”
Fans could not be more excited
It seems like thousands of people pounced on social media to share their excitement about Rihanna’s forthcoming music.
“Can’t wait till December to hear listen to my icon @Rihanna,” one person tweeted. “POP MUSIC IS SAVED!!” another added.
But some people aren’t so convinced.
“So Rihanna is dropping the album in December….ummm I don’t believe it,” one guy wrote.

While many details aren’t yet available, it is known that the album will be a reggae album.
“Though it’s too soon to name a full list of collaborators, one early influence may be Supa Dups, the Jamaican-born record producer who has worked with such dancehall greats as Beenie Man, Sean Paul, and Elephant Man,” writer Chioma Nnandi said in Rihanna’s cover story for Vogue’s June 2018 issue.
Rihanna herself commented on the album to Interview magazine in June, explaining that the project is “a really fun one.”
“It really does suck that it can’t just come out because I’m working on a really fun one right now. I’m really happy with a lot of the material we have so far, but I am not going to put it out until it’s complete,” she told the outlet.
Why is it taking so long to complete?
As we said, Rihanna is juggling a lot of different things. From acting gigs and business ventures to her personal life and relationship with Hassan Jameel, she has a lot of other things to focus on.
“I used to be in the studio, only the studio, for three months straight, and an album would come out,” she explained to Interview magazine. “Now, it’s like a carousel. I do fashion one day, lingerie the next, beauty the next, then music the next. It’s like having a bunch of kids and you need to take care of them all.”
Understandable. But luckily for fans, it seems like the album is up next. Get ready.
