X Factor legend Katie Waissel in hospital scare after suffering worst injury

Former X Factor star Katie Waissel has been forced to undergo hospital treatment after suffering the "worst injury" she has ever sustained.

The 37-year old, who rose to fame on the ITV show in 2010 reaching the quarter-final, dashed to A&E following an incident involving a vegetable slicer.

Law graduate Katie took to Instagram on Monday (July 31) to share a snap of her injury, which she captioned: "Mandolin 1 – 0 Katie."

She added: "I swear mandolines [a flat surface device fitted with a sharp blade], or me using one, should now officially be banned! Worst injury ever sustained."

Katie then took to her story 24 hours later to update her 27,000 followers with news of an infection.

Describing her tribulations, she explained: "Even worse, whilst FaceTiming a nurse I had to myself cut off half of my bandage – I feel sick, I feel so sick – because it turns out that there is an infection."

Holding up the finger in question, she continued: "The whole things is so gross. So, trigger warning – it's not fresh blood, it's dried, but I had to take half of it off and look at that.

"It's the worst pain. It's like a thousand needles. Honestly if lose the finger I will take another one and put it in this one's location to give a royal F you at the situation."

Katie then gave a shout out to "all the doctors and nurses" who deal with "much worse things on a daily basis".

Earlier this year, meanwhile, the former singer outlined plans to sue Simon Cowell and his company for "ruining her life" after "lack of aftercare" following her appearance on the ITV show left her suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder.

She has also launched The OWHL Foundation, which hopes to "oversee the welfare, human rights and liberty within the creative industry".

Speaking to The Sunday Times, she explained that she had been going through seven boxes of documents relating to her time on the programme which came off the air in 2018.

Katie, who has previously appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, claims the boxes are filled with "evidence" of the data that the show had held about her, which she was subsequently given access to after requesting it.

She told the publication: "I am pursuing a civil case of personal injury under negligence, which pertains to the duty of care," before adding that she and her legal representatives have sent a letter to Syco Entertainment, which Simon Cowell owns.
