Lifetime is known for its made-for-TV-movies about topics often ripped from the headlines. Among the films based on true events have been ones about the British royal family. Ahead, we break down three movies the network has released about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, plus how to watch them.
1. ‘William and Kate’
Camilla Luddington (Grey’s Anatomy) and Nico Evers-Swindell star in Lifetime’s William and Kate. The network debuted the film about the early days of William’s relationship with Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge just before the real-life couple had their royal wedding on April 29, 2011.
The made-for-TV-movie directed by Mark Rosman depicted the two falling in love while attending college at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. It tracked many now-famous moments in Catherine and William’s courtship including the time William reportedly first realized he had feelings for Catherine — when she walked down the runway in a student fashion show — and the intense scrutiny they endured after their relationship went public. It also documented their split in 2007 and their eventual reconciliation.
On IMDb, viewers gave William and Kate 5 stars out of 10. Watch William and Kate by purchasing the digital download for $3.99 on Amazon.
2. ‘Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance’
Following suit with William’s younger brother, Lifetime released another made-for-TV-movie about the romance between Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance premiered on the network on May 13, 2018, just six days before the real-life couple married at Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Chapel on May 19, 2018.
The film depicted Harry (Murray Fraser) and Meghan’s (Parisa Fitz-Henley) first encounter on a blind date set up by a mutual friend all the way to their Nov. 2017 engagement.
Audiences gave the film 5.7 out of 10 stars on IMDb. Watch Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance on Amazon by purchasing the digital download for $4.99.
3. ‘Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal’
Lifetime released a sequel to Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance in 2019 to coincide with the couple’s one-year wedding anniversary. On May 27, 2019, Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal debuted on Lifetime, depicting the events of Harry and Meghan’s first year of marriage with a heavy emphasis on Meghan’s transition from an actress to a member of the British royal family under intense media scrutiny.
The sequel went through casting changes switching up the actors in the lead roles. In Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal, Tiffany Smith (Supernatural) played the Duchess of Sussex opposite Charlie Field (Genius) as the Duke of Sussex.
Just like the Lifetime movie about William and Catherine and the first installment about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal isn’t the most readily available content. Like the rest, it’s not available on Hulu or Netflix. The only option is to buy a $4.99 digital download on Amazon.
