BBC’s Naga Munchetty scolds co-host for ‘awkward’ interview with students

BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty scolded her BBC co-host Jon Kay on the show today after he asked two students about their reality TV favourites while quarantining in student halls.

The 51-year-old presenter interviewed two freshmen students who are currently isolating at their student flat for 14 days in the University of Glasgow.

Lucy Owens is one of 172 students tested who positive for coronavirus on campus and she told Jon that she has lost a sense of smell.

She and her roommate Nell Manson explained that they are in their fifth day of mandatory quarantine and still adjusting to the new environment at the university.

During the interview, they told the presenter that they are trying to maintain a social distance when going around the flat, which they share with 10 other students.

Jon said: "Good luck … and try to work out if it's more Big Brother or Love Island there."

Both Lucy and Nell were left speechless as they put on an awkward smile on their faces and shrugged their shoulders.

The host quickly jumped in and added: "Yeah your parents might be watching. Let's leave it there.

"Thank you very much indeed and we wish you well and hope you get better soon. And, uh, that's good. Thanks."

Back in the studio, co-host Naga looked at Jon and said: "Awkward!"

Jon explained: "Yeah I know. I'm sorry I just feel like, looking at four days gone, 10 days to go, all in a confined space and I just got reality TV flashbacks."

Naga corrected him and said: "I'm sure they are busy studying!"
