The fact that Season 5 of Better Call Saul was the best one yet has been bittersweet for fans. On one hand, they’re glad that the Breaking Bad prequel is finally getting the attention it deserves. But on the other, it’s making the long wait that much harder until the final season drops.
Season 6 is tentatively scheduled to air sometime in 2021, but with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic still going strong and no clarity on when social distancing orders will be lifted, that’s all subject to change.
It’s not all bad news, though. Better Call Saul showrunners and producers recently teased a few details about the sixth and final season that prove it’ll be worth the wait.

‘Better Call Saul’ made some surprising changes in season 5
The entire series has been racing toward the inevitable conclusion of Jimmy McGill becoming the corrupt criminal lawyer Saul Goodman. But along the way fans have become invested in a few other equally important storylines, including the vicious war between Lalo Salamanca and Gus Fring (with Nacho Varga in the crossfire) and the moral decay of Kim Wexler.
Somehow, the central storyline has shifted, making the Breaking Bad character cameos the least interesting part of the fifth season. And now? Showrunners insist season 6 is heading for even darker places.

They may not know exactly when shooting can begin, but showrunnersPeter Gould and Vince Gilligan promised they’re working from home and at leastfleshing out the final season.
“We’re plugging away [on season 6],” Gilligan said during arecent interviewwith Variety. “We’ve been doing video teleconferencing so that we’re havinga virtual writers’ room. Peter [Gould] and all the writers and myself are alljoined together with the aid of internet technology and kind of hate it…We’dmuch rather be in person.”

It was shocking to see Lalo walk away from the wreckage ofhis home during the season 5 finale, especially considering how Gus Fring hadhired his “best assassins” to dispose of him, plus had enlisted Nacho to help. ButLalo outsmarted them all and the chilling final scene confirms that he’s outfor some serious revenge.
Gilligan expressed his big concern for upcoming events, whichfans of the show share: “I’m worried about Nacho,” he said during an interviewwith AMC.
Lalo Salamanca represents a huge threat for the final season
“Lalo is such a wildcard,” executive producer MelissaBernstein said, “Seeing him walk away from his burned up hacienda, having beencrossed, it is not gonna be pretty.”
Gilligan echoed her sentiments, saying, “Lalo is one crazy,murderous bastard.”
And the person with the most insight into the character,actor Tony Dalton, is preparing to channel that anger into the role oncefilming does begin. “I don’t know what’s gonna happen, but smiles are gone afterthat,” Dalton told AMC.
Gilligan perfectly captured the way everyone is feeling whenhe said, “Yeah, season 6 — it can’t come soon enough.”
