Big twist as two EastEnders icons get set to take over The Vic

Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) receives not one but two offers she cannot refuse in EastEnders next week, as discussion moves to investing in the Vic following Mick’s (Danny Dyer) tragic disappearance.

Mick, as viewers know, vanished at sea over the festive period while trying to rescue Linda from the treacherous waves, unaware she’d already made it to safety.

While a body has yet to be recovered, it’s believed that the landlord met his demise in the icy water. His new bride Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks), whose scheming antics led to her hubby’s deadly end, was subsequently arrested for the terror she caused, and remains in prison.

Linda, meanwhile, has struggled to process the news of her soulmate’s untimely end and thus resolved to sell the Vic, but came into difficulty in doing so, discovering she cannot sell the pub without Mick’s say so, and given that they’ve yet to find a body, he cannot be declared dead, meaning that she’s in a state of limbo.

The landlady has therefore resumed her duties behind the bar, with some assistance from Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) and Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker).

Things get harder, however, as Valentine’s Day approaches, the first since Mick met his tragic end, and thus Linda finds it difficult to cope.

The traditionally romantic day proves as difficult for the matriarch as you might imagine, but Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) proves supportive, assisting a grateful Linda in organising a party in a bid to distract herself from a trauma of her own given that it’s also the anniversary of Dennis Rickman Jnr’s (Bleu Landau) demise.

Linda’s problems, however, go from bad to worse, as following a particularly tough night, she receives more bad news from a lawyer: Janine is intent on selling Mick’s half of the Vic!

Heartbroken, she relays this information to Sharon, who tries to help her hatch a plan, but they come to the conclusion that Linda might be forced to sell up.

Sharon, however, gives it some more thought and has the perfect solution. Wanting to help her friend, she makes Linda an offer that she can’t refuse, offering to buy Mick’s half of the Vic.

Eve Unwin (Heather Peace), however, overhears the conversation and complicates the situation, putting forward Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) as a potential buyer, hoping to win back her ex-lover’s trust.

The question is: will it be Sharon that ends up by Linda’s side manning the pumps of the pub she once called home?

Or are we in for a new partnership in the form of Linda and Suki as landladies?

Only time will tell, but what an exciting time for EastEnders!
