David has had a rough ride over the last six months after Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) was shot by Derek Milligan (Craig Els) and put into a coma.

When she eventually woke up, it quickly became clear she had little to no memory of her relationship with her husband David and asked for a divorce after trying to work on it.

But, since Shona asked for a divorce David’s behaviour has taken a turn for the worst and he’s been looking for danger.

A couple of months back David was mugged at knifepoint by a gang and the men took his possessions leaving David shaken.

Not only has David not been sleeping well, but he’s also begun to make silly mistakes, for example missing Max Platt’s (Harry McDermott) special school speech last week.

However, last week things hit a boiling point when David went looking for trouble on a nearby estate.

Whilst out and about, he saw a bunch of drug dealers and David jumped on the bonnet of their car looking for a fight.

As the gang chased David through the streets, Craig spotted what was happening and confronted him.

Tonight, Craig invited David to go for a run with him, explaining how much it has helped him recently.

Craig said: “So, how was that for you then? Did you get a runners high?”

David replied: “I see what you mean about running. Can only think of how much your legs hurt and feeling like your lungs are going to burst.

“It’s not like cruising for a bruising though. That’s what I was trying to do on that estate, trying to stir up trouble with those lads.”

Craig continued: “Do you know how mad that sounds?”

“Yeah it’s like poking a rottweiler with a stick isn’t it?” continued David “If they catch you, yeah, they’re going to beat you to a pulp so all you think about is just getting away it sort of gives you a buzz – I’m running for my life literally.”

Craig added: “You need to stop taking these stupid risks for the sake of your family. This is self-destructive behaviour

“You need to do something else, more positive. You need to take this seriously. I am trying to help you.

“You have to promise to stop this. It is my job to keep you safe. Even if I have to handcuff you to me.”

But, if David continues to ignore the advice he is being given, what lengths will Craig go to to try and save the young man’s life?

Craig has always wanted to do his best and if that means risking his own safety or his own job, the policeman could soon be looking at a disciplinary hearing.

The question is: What will be the thing that stops David heading down such a dangerous path?

If David gets caught next time by the gangs he is provoking, there is no telling if he will make it out intact.

Coronation Street airs on ITV Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm.
