Corrie boss reveals huge Dev story after he leaves Aadi to die in explosion

Coronation Street viewers have been thrilled to see the resurgence of the much loved Alahan clan – a much underused but relatable family who are finally getting the focus they have creatively demanded.

And the dynamics of them are about to be brought to the centre in an explosive way that will change them forever as a crash sees Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) make a split second decision to save the life of daughter Asha (Tanisha Gorey) over his son Aadi (Adam Hussain) before their crashed car explodes.

Not confirming if Aadi lives or dies, producer Iain MacLeod has revealed a long term aftermath for the Alahans in the wake of the fateful accident.

And he is full of praise for the unit.

Iain explained to Metro.co.uk: ‘The Alahans are a fantastic and very central family, more so now than ever. Adam and Tanisha are absolutely brilliant actors and the ongoing story about their tension as twins – the squeaky wheel gets the grease, kind of thing is what Aadi feels.

‘Aadi has felt like, hello I’m over here. It’s very believable. The Alahans are the most normal and relatable family to me, their dynamics feel very real.

‘The events of this week is heightened but the story that follows is down to earth and grounded. It’s relatable to anyone who has a sibling. I love this family and it creates a resonant story going forward.’

And it isn’t just the Alahans who will be affected long term by the huge stunt week as Iain has reminded us that there is no point in blowing everything up without there being heaps of story to be pulled from the ashes.

He said: ‘Having done a number of event weeks, it’s only worth doing if the aftermath is more interesting than the week. It’s all very well blowing up the Street so to speak, but it only means so much if it doesn’t change lives or have an aftermath.

‘There are brilliant final chapters but exciting novel and new chapters in other stories – some of which are surprising. It’s a launch pad for Christmas and New Year, absolutely.’
