Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan reveals regrets over acting on BBC show ‘as wee child’ – The Sun

KAREN Gillan has revealed what she’d change about her time as Amy Pond on Doctor Who.

The Scottish actress starred as the companion to Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor aged 23, with her character’s story arc concluding with a wedding to Rory Williams, played by Arthur Darvill.

Since stepping back from the show in 2012 Gillan has gone on to achieve Hollywood fame, appearing in the likes of Marvel’s Avengers franchise and Jumanji.

With her success has come a lot of reflection and the redhead admitted she wasn’t entirely proud of her performance on Doctor Who.

“I’d go back to the first half of the first series that I did and just redo that acting,” she told Fandom.

“I know a lot more about acting now. I was a wee child,” she added.

Elsewhere, Gillan reflected on the prospect of a Doctor Who film, which she predicted was unlikely to make it past TV execs.

In fact, she recalled early talks to get Jonny Depp on board to play the iconic Time Lord for a big screen adaptation.

“There’s always talk of that [Doctor Who movie],” she continued.

“And Johnny Depp was going to play The Doctor. This was, like, a long time ago.

“But the BBC aren’t going to let that happen? No way! They’re like, ‘This is our flagship show!’”

The comments come after show boss Chris Chibnall ruled out Daleks appearing in season 12.

He was compelled to speak out after fans posted clips from filming on Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge.

In a short video, the Doctor's greatest foe seems to have returned, with a number of Daleks on the bridge during what appears to be an evening shoot.

One appears to be a newly designed recon Dalek, while the others are an older model, the gold plated Daleks from the 2005 series.

However the recon Dalek appears to be destroyed in other footage gathered from Snapchat.

In any case, it sounds like the nefarious warmongers won’t be back on the small screen in 2020.

"I wouldn't expect Daleks this series," Chibnall told Entertainment Weekly when asked about who Jodie Whittaker will be facing off against as The Doctor next month.

"Yes, I'm being serious,” he added.

“You might want to expect Cybermen though."

Doctor Who returns to BBC One on New Year’s Day and will be available to stream on iPlayer.
