Eamonn Holmes launching GB News Radio to 'shake up news media'

GB News is about to launch what it appears to think is an innovative radio station, launched by Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster.

In its latest attempt to ‘shake up’ news media, the broadcaster will be the first to simulcast its television content on radio, which will make for interesting listening in the event of further technical difficulties.

On Sunday December 19, GB News went off air for an entire three hours.

Chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos said the channel is ‘turning traditional media on its head’ as it launches the DAB radio service, GB News radio, in January.

New breakfast hosts Holmes and Webster will be the first to present on the dual service on January 4 2022.

Former TV-am and BBC presenter Anne Diamond will become a new guest host on Weekend Breakfast with Stephen Dixon.

Frangopoulos said: ‘We set out to innovate and shake up news media and that’s what we’re doing, whether it’s on mass-reach television and DAB radio, online, apps, live on YouTube, or digital platforms, GB News will be wherever audiences want us to be.’

GB News has had an interesting start since launching in June 2021.

Its first week was plagued with technical issues and gaffes, while its chairman Andrew Neil fled the country in embarrassment after a fortnight.

After hosting just eight episodes of his flagship show on the channel, he eventually quit, vowing never to show his face on GB News again.

Neil, 72, told the Daily Mail he ‘came close to a breakdown’ fearing the stress of the would ‘kill’ him.

It’s hoped Holmes’ popularity will be the beginning of a fresh start for GB News, when he begins his three and half hour breakfast show from 6am to 9.30am.
