Former Coronation Street star Reece Dinsdale is taking on a new soap role as the father of Vinny in Emmerdale.
In the series the past comes back to haunt Mandy Dingle (played by Lisa Riley) when she finds herself in front of an ex-partner Paul Ashdale.
In today’s episode viewers discovered Dinsdale plays the estranged father of her surrogate son Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) who walked out when he was just a toddler.
After he left the family Mandy raised her son on her own and the pair have grown used to the family dynamic.
Both their worlds are going to be turned upside down following the unexpected comeback of Paul in the series.
Fans are starting to find out snippets of the truth about his past, including the real reason as to why he ran away from his family.
Dinsdale, who also played Joe McIntyre in Coronation Street, spoke to Radio Times about how he came to get the role.
He said: “I thought it would be wonderful to get involved on that side and be an actor again. There were all these rumours about who would play Vinny’s dad – apparently Rick Astley was mentioned. I’m the poor man’s Rick Astley.”
