Emmerdale’s ruthless business woman Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) has a new venture that she’s got her eyes on, and intends to make it work. But as she drags her bumbling husband Jimmy (Nick Miles) into the mix, he isn’t best pleased with her ideas.

It comes as the ITV soap is set to refocus on Dan Spencer’s (Liam Fox) life-changing injury storyline, which will be the centre of attention in coming scenes, as the Brenda Walker’s (Lesley Dunlop) cafe will start to face the repercussions.

Fans will remember that Dan suffered a severe allergic reaction to one of her wraps that she hadn’t labelled properly back in March earlier this year, and had to be rushed to hospital.

After collapsing in the garage, he fell awkwardly, causing a major spinal injury that has left him bound to a wheelchair for the foreseeable future.

And while Dan and his family are trying to come to terms with his new way of life, more trouble could be brewing.

Next week, Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) takes over the cafe while Brenda is away, but things take a turn or the worst when he finds out the insurance won’t pay out to cover Dan’s injury.

As Nicola overhears a concerned Bob discussing the disastrous impact this would have on Brenda, she believes she can help.

The no-nonsense councillor came to realise she has grown extremely bored with her quiet village life, and threw herself into her work during the lockdown special episodes to keep herself busy, despite having nothing pressing to do.

With her feelings of discontent putting pressure on her marriage to Jimmy, has she found an opportunity too good to miss?

Perhaps Brenda’s predicament could be the excitement she needs to boost her spirits – we all know Nicola has always been a little selfish when it comes to others misfortune.

But as she puts her ideas to Jimmy, he begs her not to get involved.

What on earth has she got planned?

And could it cause more trouble for Brenda, who could return to much bigger problems than she first thought?

One theory could be that she takes over the cafe.

Maybe under new management, the local delicatessen would fly and start pulling in more money than it has done previously.

Usually with an ulterior-motive up her sleeve, she could begin her new life in the hospitality business, which could take her further afield and out of the unexciting Dales.

But who are we to know what goes on in her head?

Even Jimmy doesn’t have a clue!

And he might do well to stay clear of it altogether as things get a little rocky…

As Dan returns from some time away from the village, he tries to stay positive about his new life-style after seeing how much its affected not only him, but his daughter Amelia (Daisy Campbell).

The teen blames Brenda completely for what has happened to her dad, and took it upon herself to get justice by turning vigilante and egging the cafe.

But she soon repented her sins and was caught out by Kerry Wyatt (Lara Norton) who forced her to apologise.

Her heckles will be back up next week as she finds a get well soon card from Brenda.

Will Amelia begin to plot again?

Emmerdale continues Friday at 7pm on ITV.
