Emmerdales Liam actor gushes over wonderful partner after split from co-star

Emmerdale actor Jonny McPherson has opened up about his love life following his split from co-star Natalie J Robb.

The pair once dated after striking up a romance during lockdown.

They've managed to maintain friends since going their separate ways and never formally announced their split.

It seems that Jonny has moved on with a new mystery woman who he's described as "wonderful" in a new interview.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, he said: "I am with someone.

"She is absolutely wonderful. We’ve been together for a couple of years. I am really happy."

Natalie, who plays Moira Dingle in Emmerdale, previously said things got "too intense too soon" during their relationship.

She told The Sun: "Unfortunately, it was Covid times, so there was this added pressure.

"He moved in with me during the first lockdown and it was just too intense, too soon,

"And if you’re not used to that, which I hadn’t been for a while, we realised pretty quickly that we were better off as friends."

Jonny has played Dr Liam since 2018 and he's set to be at the centre of a new racy Emmerdale storyline as he begins an affair with Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson).

Fans of the soap will know that nurse Wendy is in a relationship with Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) but things are getting heated between her and Liam.

The dangerous liaison begins when Wendy discovers Dr Liam has been penning murder-mystery stories under the pseudonym of Anna Le Monde and suggests a few racy ideas herself.

Speaking about his more light-hearted storyline, Liam said: "It’s been great fun to play out and we’ve had a lot of laughter filming the scenes.

"At the same time, you don’t want to lose the sparkle if you are too aware of the campness of the scenes, so it’s about getting it all right."

Dr Liam has been hit plenty of dark times over the past five years from the death of his daughter Leanna Cavanagh (Mimi Slinger) to battling depression.

"Leanna storyline, it felt like coming home from a funeral every day," Jonny said.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
